Looking forward to my day in court.
That's one of those things I hated at the time but found amusing after the fact. Still...
...I will never watch another movie on Svengoolie again, even if I can record it and f-fwd through the silliness.
As for the movie itself, I was a kid the last time I saw it, so I didn't remember the philosophical ending. According to Wikipedia, Richard Matheson's story ended with the protagonist's epiphany that "if nature existed on endless levels, so also might intelligence." The movie spelling out what that means (i.e. "God") kinda takes away from that notion.
Overall, I'd say the movie was pretty good and the ending was okay but the one thing I didn't like was how the wife & brother believed he'd been killed by the cat, even tho he almost was (fucking cats - they can't be trusted!). I would have had the wife discover him and then ended on a sad, sentimental note rather than a bleak, quasi existential one.

For me personally probably Young Frankenstein. Then again I probably haven't seen that many.
Another one that I thought was really great was High Noon with Gary Cooper. It was considered to be one of the last black and white westerns.
Also, someone mentioned The Fly on the previous page. That was a great movie but it wasn't black and white. The two original sequels were though.

Some great movies on TCM this week. A rare showing of "Diabolique" on Wednesday.
"The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you got to load or unload go to the White Zone!"
A favorite of mine is on TCM this morning, A Bucket of Blood. Dick Miller as busboy Walter Paisley is the cat's meow. I read somewhere that Dick also uses the name "Walter Paisley" in 4 or 5 movies later on in his career. When I was about 5, my family rented a beach house in Plum Point, RI. My mom stayed with us kids while Dad worked in Providence and came down most nights and on the weekends. One night, it was raining with thunder and lightning and my mom was watching A Bucket of Blood on the only channel the TV could get. Said it scared the wits out of her. I told her it was a comedy, and she retorted that when you're 26 and alone with three sleeping little kids on a dark and stormy night in a musty beach cottage, it's a damn scary movie.

I'm actually watching "Plan 9 from Outer Space" on TCM right now, often considered the worst movie ever made.

The Brown Bunny has a couple of interesting minutes (actually, that part is all I've seen!).
I didn't think Requiem for a Dream was bad, but it was depressing. Scarface I actually haven't seen that much of, but what I saw was bad.
When I was a kid, I watched Attack of the Killer Shrews a couple of times on TV. That was pretty bad, but for some reason I still watched it a second time! Also, and I'm pretty proud of this, my Dad took us to see "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" in a theater when it was new! I've seen it many times, both "regular" and MST3K versions.
Speaking of MST3K, when I was on a CTTE, they had a channel with a few of the newer version of what some of the MST3K guys were doing - Lafftracks or something like that - in rotation. Even though they were actually GOOD movies - Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark - they were hilarious! They can be a little racier than they could on MST3K. Their version of the Star Wars Holiday Special is also hilarious!
Good, because I missed it on TCM! Thanks!
And speaking of TCM, I've never seen this one. Was it the inspiration for "Bewitched?" Based on a book, amusingly titled "The Passionate Witch."

My mom told me when I was a kid that it was based on Bell, Book, and Candle, the movie with Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart, which is pretty good from what I remember. According to Wikipedia, however, it was based on both the movie I Married a Witch and the play Bell, Book, and Candle. I guess my mom was sorta half right.

Speaking of bad movies on TCM, they're showing Looking for Mr Goodbar Tues night at midnight. Actually, I didn't think the movie was that bad until the very ending, which was really nasty. I found out later from my ex wife, the women's studies prof, that it was changed slightly. Judith Rossner based the novel on the true story of a teacher in NYC named Roseann Quinn who lived a double life and was killed by a stranger she picked up at a bar. Rossner said after the premiere of the movie, "I'd like to get out of here without having to talk to the producer. I feel like the mother who delivered her 13-year-old daughter to the door of Roman Polanski and didn't know what was going to happen."

Scarface is bad, but not on the same level. I can think of a lot of movies that are worse. At least Scarface had a production budget. It's was just bad in every other way.
Like Jed mentioned, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" is awful. I've always heard that "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" is another contender for worst, but I've never seen it.
"The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you got to load or unload go to the White Zone!"
And now, I bring you the comedy genius of The Three Stooges. (I picked this one almost at random the other day. It's got it all! Genius! Pullman Cars are automatically funny, just like Murphy Beds.)
(I don't know if I can embed this one.)
