But I don't like this strange and odd and dumb sub genre!

I mean, it's so darn sub!

    You BASTARD S.O.B.!

Spinning X by Schnellertollermeier all over, and my goodness is this some revelation of sonic. I mean, I loved Les Insurgés De Romilly by Ni, but this one goes further. It breaks the frames of stylistically defined tropes of expectancy and builds something monstrous both in sound and in overall listening impact. And when there's actual repetitive melody (as in delivered by distorted bass halfway through that opening 20-min. epic) it sticks like a swirling picture on your mind.

Anyone remember little-known but musically very interesting late-70s French act Pataphonie and their (admittedly obscure) le Matin Blanc? This comes across as them but as of today; economically (as in music-structural expenditure) highly limited in melodic scope, but astoundingly forceful in thematic statement and short-rate dynamic between two-to-three performers.

I'd -LOVE- to see Schnellertollermeier live!

I love the Pataphone "Le Matin Blanc" album! Interesting comparison.

The Schnellers are amazing live - seen them twice.

They are actually touring now, which is extra shocking in COVID times.

Here's two great videos for you Richard - dig the huge crowd in the second one!

Yeah, I've seen them twice and they are stunning, the new release has more air and space in it, I'm really enjoying it, X & Rights have a higher level of intensity.

^It really doesn't surprise me all too much that there's an audience for this sort of thing out there. The merger of math-rock crunch dynamic and minimalist tentative repetition really works up a storm.

I guess it was rarely about the toolbox itself but rather of how to utilize contents. Some make the most of it and decidedly know how to.

The new Schnellertollermeier CD just arrived, alongside the other new Cuneiform, A Love Supreme Electric (Henry Kaiser, John Harrahan, Vinny Golia, Wayne Peet, Mike Watt). I'm just one spin in with each of these but I can already see them both being in my small group of favourites for the year.

I also got the new Sonata Islands Kommandoh:

which is really really doing the trick for me.

It's been a good week in music

EDIT: OK, worked out how to do the new BC embed. Neato!

The new Le Grand Sbam CD landed yesterday. IT'S A MONSTER!!1!

OK, I've only listened to it twice, and perhaps by next Friday I'll find it passé. But for right now it's the stupendousest thing yet.

Have pity on us. We have to wait until December the 11th despite the pre-order.

I am anxiously waiting for my copy!

I also got the new album by Sonata Islands Kommandoh. I have listened it so far only one but it seems promising. Little bit more electric than their previous material.

Yeah, I have to wait until 12/11 to download it, an-tic-i-pation.

New Red Fiction (Atomic Ape/Orange Tulip Conspiracy) is good, will need repeated listens to see if its better than the last two.

The Quietus always puts out a pretty eclectic year-end list. I thought it might have some interest for the kind of perverse curmudgeons who frequent this thread:

    https://thequietus.com/articles/2930...norman-records

Nice to see entries for Aksak Maboul, Sun Ra Arkestra and Horse Lords, among others. As usual though the list is mainly stuff that I've not heard of and that wouldn't normally cross my radar. I've only scratched the surface so far, but the Teleplasmiste album (half of which is Michael J York of Coil, Cyclobe, The Utopia Strong, etc) at no. 44 promises to reward further investigation.

I’m a little biased but I think the Teleplasmiste album is lovely.

Sc'ööf is a Swiss quartet that play pretty wild and very experimental 'stuff'. File right next to you Schnellertollermeier albums.

This is not maybe completely in the domain of avant-prog but new album Constantine by Théo Ceccaldi & Valentin Ceccaldi is a very compelling mix of avant-jazz, chanson, prog, north African influences, pop and even tango. One of the best albums of the 2020 for me definitely. Anyone else familiar with this?
