Only sort of fits this thread, but Present's A Great Inhumane Adventure and Live in Bremen by Nucleus are both on the same label, Cuneiform, and when I saw both of their thumbnails I thought they were using the same artwork.

They only really resemble each other when they're shrunken way down.

You mean two posts, right? And the first post was also an album cover pair, but the link for the second cover no longer works because it was on Tumblr. I can't remember what the second cover was. That's how long this thread has been in action - it's a national treasure! But it's cool, I'll let this slide...

There are lots and lots of album covers that are intentional tributes or parodies, there are numerous covers by famous artists (Mati Klarwein, Roger Dean, H.R. Giger, etc.), there are very common covers featuring various bands in very common poses.

I was hoping for covers with less-obvious THEMES that are duplicated or approximated.

I'm a bit lazy, so I invite you all to come up with some covers from which this one by Baxter Dury is clearly a duplicate. (Nice and Pink Floyd come to mind).
