Early contender for 2017 album of the year?
Adam Rudolph's Moving Pictures, new album Glare of the Tiger. I couldn't find a full track to share, just an EPK which gives you small glimpses. It's half the spirit of electric Miles infused with a lot more African beats, rhythms, and melodies. Add Hamid Drake to double up the percussion and the end result is quite fantastic.
WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
Thanks for the heads' up.
I'll be on the lookout , is this out already??
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

I heard this on a soundtrack for a documentary years ago but never identified it until today. I knew it had to be something on ECM but trying to figure which ECM was daunting. But I saw this online today and realized that this was the piece I was searching for. This is likely to open yet another expensive ECM wormhole again.

He says they did this album in the same way the last generation did.... as a group working together. But the generation used tape machines and didn't process the music to death with Pro Tools and other music manipulating software. It's just incredible these guys can't see it. I sure as hell hear it. So close but yet so far.
This isn't about my tastes, it's about the bandleader saying they are embracing "the old way of doing things" to get those great results, then turns around and doesn't do things the old way at all. Total hypocrisy and the result is another boring over produced jazz record that lacks the feel of improvisation, comes across more as a cut and paste computer project than work of musical artistry.
Jazz is now the most unpopular genre on the music charts. Even on this site jazz is not listed in the progressive main board page. It was never meant to be so over produced. This was supposed to be the feel music. Where are the great songwriters and stylish soloists? Too much of a chops fest and then overly cleaned up in Protools. Sad to see this happening to jazz.
Ask yourself this.. why were there so many more historic jazz albums made in the 1950's compared to this decade?
Simple, back then it was believable and today it's not (fake).
*sigh*
Isn't part of what makes something considered "historic" related to how it stands the test of time? Comparing music produced within the last 10 years to music produced 60+ years ago when making that argument -- completely illogical.
Skullhead beats this drum no matter what and there's no arguing with him.
