This album has just kept gaining steam with me. Continued spins just keep drawing me in. If I can get to Chicago to see them live, I will.

I gave it a break and then came back to it a couple of days ago and liked it more than I had previously.

Pura Vida!.
There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind. ∞
Duke Ellington.
I just saw that they are coming to Kansas City on July 30th.
I'm there!
I liked it on first listen, but multiple ones did the actual trick. Put it away for almost two months and got it back out again this previous weekend, and it sounded even better. And that bitchin' vox in the opening track is very clearly and obviously intended as a particular "effect" - and darkly humourously so. It works much better in the larger context of the album, seeing how the ensuing music there becomes all the more varied.
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
Finally got this.
Just needed to be in the mood.
I could do with more melodic singing...and no Dan lead vocals, but overall it's good.
So it's here, at last. Listened to it now, in my opinion, it's great. great guitars, Nils' flute is nice, I can even hear some more 'melodies' here, (as many complains there are no melodies here). it's more melodic than I thought. and there are other vocal thingy here. It's really click on me, waiting for repeated spins!
as for the formats - in mimicry they announce that meanwhile there are no discs, but there will be. I've purchased the vinyl, with download possibility. BUT the vinyl velocity is 45'', not 33''. my turntable is not suitable for 45'', and that become an issue. so for now on, the format is a CD done from FLAC files converted to WAV.. not an ideal way for me, but that's it for now.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Petrolia, which I've never been to, is apparently a sort of Shangri-La. It's an incredibly isolated area in California, populated principally by hippies and old-timer farmers, who've somehow learned to get along. That impossible drive, all on badly potholed dirt, is the point: it means that very little of the outside world intrudes. And Dan Rathbun lives there - his late parents retired to Petrolia, and he took over their house. Apparently his wife has a thriving mail-order business in herbal extracts, and that's how they make a living. So it's a sort of home base for the band.
Free Salamander Exhibit is hitting the road again with Cheer Accident and Faun Fables!

I don't always drive 8 1/2 hours from Toronto to Chicago to see bands, but when I do....

I've just upgraded this to a 13 status in my Gnosis ratings. And since it's a little worse than Natural History, I gave Natural History a 14 so it's all settled.
What an incredible album, from start to finish! It is the single most convincing proof that Heavy Metal can be art at the same time. This is not an art album that uses heavy metal parts, but rather an album that raises the heavy metal language to the point of high art.
But I am so pissed at them for not having done a follow up for all these years, that I was thinking to rate all Nils projects with 1.

Damn, I saw this thread was bumped and was hoping there was news about new music
It seems his bands, Idiot Flesh, SGM, and FSE average 3 to 4 years between releases. Add the pandemic as a non-year and we'd be on schedule for 2021 or 2022. My opinion is I'd rather wait longer for a well thought out, conceptually creative, kick-ass music album than get inferior products quicker. Each album in the SGE and FSE catalog are gems.
Duncan's going to make a Horns Emoticon!!!
