    Minimalist Jazz Rock

Ever since I got turned onto Nik Bartsch Ronin I've been looking for more and more music mining the areas of jazz and rock featuring heavily repetitive base structure with interwoven patterns build from there. The stuff that takes Reich & Riley and applies it to Rock & Jazz. My understanding is that The Necks were one of the originators of this style and current practitioners include Nik Bartsch Ronin, Brandt Brauer Frick, Sonar, Dawn Of Midi.

Thoughts on this style and particular favorites?

Queen of all Ears by The Lounge Lizards. Some - but definitely not all - music by John Hollenbeck/Claudia Quintet and The Blue Cranes. *Some* of Jaga Jazzist's stuff as well.

I've grabbed some shows off Dime by EIVIND AARSET and NILS PETTER MOLVAER. Haven't had time to listen to them but they might be something to check out.

All of the folks you named + The Claudia Quintet, which SS named - it isn't a particularly large field at this time. At least not that I know of and I am pretty interested in it and paying attention to it.

Of the Claudia Quintet I've got Royal Toast & September, which are both great, and plan to pick up What Is The Beautiful. What else of there's is in this minimalist style?

I would start, actually, with the 1st two, which have the most 'adherence' to this style, imo.

    I, Claudia
    Semi-Formal

Although in the case of 'this style', Hollenbeck certainly arrived at it independently and without hearing The Necks or Dawn Of Midi or Nik Bärtsch.

Sonar and Dawn of MIDI are my personal favorites, although I dig Ronin quite a bit as well.

I have a BBF album but it hasn't quite clicked with me, for whatever reason.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com

The BBF disc I have isn't that great, IMO. I have never even heard of Dawn of Midi, but will check them out.

It will probably wither and die from being too niche but the back and forth we had on FB the other day prompted me ask here.

I picked up the Ikarus that Edu mentioned in the same thread, very good.

You Make Me Real. I liked one or two of the pieces, but didn't really dig the Euro-Disco vibe.

Rabbitoo's "National Anthem Of Unknown Country" might fit in here, especially when you hear the opening sequence:

If you can, go for the 2nd Porticos lp - Isla - it's their best, I think.

Also, definitely go for the 2nd GoGos lp - v2.0 - a big improvement on their first outing.

You might also want to check out Mammal Hands - they suppoted the Penguins on their recent tour, &, when I saw them, turned in a better performance, & have, I think, more potential for developing in the future:

    The album is called Animalia.

    if it Rock's I'm there
gotta explore this thread later when I have time
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
