First time here, like it ... a lot!

"This is the fourth album - but the first with wide distribution - by this amazingly assured and swinging ‘free-bop’ quartet, who have been developing their unique take on modern jazz for a decade and will strongly appeal to fans of: Anthony Braxton’s ‘70s/’80s quartets, John Carter-Bobby Bradford, Ornette Coleman, Steve Lacy-Roswell Rudd Quartet, Vandermark 5."

“...a gem of crisp ensemble-playing and finely calibrated improvisations...” – San Diego Union Tribune

I wish I had bought those other Cosmologic albums when wayside had them in stock. They are much more to my tastes these days.

Here we go ... out of my radar ... first spin:

    - G R E A T !! -

"Fast 'N' Bulbous is a Captain Beefheart tribute project, led by two innovators of New York's avant music scene: Gary Lucas, who was guitarist for Captain Beefheart's Magic Band in its latter years and saxist and arranger Phillip Johnston. Their mission statement: The idea is to use the compositions of Don Van Vliet as a vehicle for improvisation and arranging."

"They are the big brass band [Captain Beefheart] never had.... The group attacks Van Vliet's songs with the same idiosyncratic precision that he drilled into his own musicians."

    Gang:
    - This is huge for me ... I'm very happy and excited too !! -

I never forget this message from Steve because I was one of those:
(but today I fixed all that ... thankx uncle Steve!!)

"so ... we are down to our last 100 copies!
That's pretty great. It's less great if you want to dawdle forever before buying it! So, consider yourself warned and linked to where you can stop dawdling."

    (01/30/2018)

    - Belts tied as I'm beginning this journey of no return ... will probably never be the same -

    Pura Vida!

PS: I'll try to buy it physically ... it is a "labour of love"! (good luck with that ... lol)

I bought this past weekend's $7 special, the Mahavishnu Project's "Return to the Emerald Beyond." It sounds fantastic for much of the album, and then gets less fantastic as some vocals come in for one song that kind of drags it all down, but I see that's a bonus track anyway. The main album is excellent though! Glad I decided to go for this one as I was always curious about it.

Don't forget about Upriver also on Cuneiform and the debut on Shanachie, plus as I said in the Bandcamp thread,

For anyone who has the 3 major Yo Miles releases, there are a couple of releases here https://henrykaiser.bandcamp.com/ that contain some additional tracks that you don't already own. To save you the work of figuring out what they are,

    https://henrykaiser.bandcamp.com/alb...iles-lightning

    04 - Still Sunrise
    05 - Tsapiky Frelimo
06 - Miles Dewey Davis III - Great Ancestor

    https://henrykaiser.bandcamp.com/alb...miles-shinjuku

    05 - Muhammad Ali

    Great!!

Well, I've "Hunger's Teeth" and "Crisis In Clay" so, this is a "natural" step for me.

"Abandonship is the 5uu’s sixth release. It features compositions, lyrics, and multi-instrumentation by Kerman, vocals by Deborah Perry (Thinking Plague) & sound sculpting by Udi Koomran. It is a emotionally intense, densely-layered, and compositionally complex work, inspired by such dark R.I.O. bands as Univers Zero and Present, and a logical progression of the 5uu’s multi-faceted, prismatic sound."

I'm little familiar with their music, first spin here, so, what could be my next step? (Tankx)

For reasons I can't properly articulate, for me Fabulous Drop is head and shoulders above the rest of their catalogue. But I would also recommend North America, Bee, and Live In Berlin

I also have "A Beautiful Western Saddle" (1993) with singer Amy Denio; I'll look for your recommendations.

    First spin, like it!

"Deconstructionism – the art of building, dismantling and rebuilding again
    Or
    Post-Rock characteristics in RIO?!"
    (By avestin)

"One of the great Cuneiform 'one and done' ensembles, Kombinat M used an unusual combination of two electric guitars, violin, reeds & drums. The compositions vary in length from under a minute to over 10 minutes. Their approach combines aspects of the Glenn Branca guitar wall of sound approach with a touch of The Ordinaires & other "downtown" groups, but mostly their own style."

    So far, agree 100%.

    Here we go ...

"The Cuneiform reissue improves on the SST item enormously, first of all by including the entirety of both albums, secondly by adding another full album's worth of previously unreleased live material, and thirdly by adding on top of that another half hour of new studio performances.
In short, this set offers everything Frith and Kaiser have recorded together, and at mid-price.
Absolutely a must for noise fans, skronk hounds, and adventurous guitarheads."

I just love it! (first spin)

I only have "Volucris Avis Dirae - Arum", their fourth which I also recommend and is a different "beast" from "Last Train Out" ... the best thing is to listen to it Gang.
I need to explore their discography.

"Sometimes albums are the collective energy of the people involved and how they interact with their surroundings. This would be that. On our third album, we were down to the original 3 members and it was back to basics."

This album blew my mind on a first listen, and I don't have that feeling much anymore. Weird, abstract, jagged, tightly composed and performed little miniature sonic sculptures. Glad I signed up for the newsletter.
