First concert ever went to....Blood Sweat and Tears with my parents at the LA Greek Theater in the late 60s..I was about ten years old and really didn't appreciate the music as I would have later.
First rock concert attended...Cat Stevens, LA Forum, 1976. I think I still have the $7.50 ticket stub somewhere. Great concert!!
First prog concert...Jethro Tull, Long Beach Convention Center, 1977 Songs from the Wood tour...great show!!

Cool! When they played the reunion show at Trenton war memorial for NEARfest, I told Roye my first show was them just down the road at Rider in 76. He didn't remember 😃

First concert: Iron Butterfly, Honolulu Civic Center, 1969, I was 9. I'd become a huge Cream, Hendrix and Butterfly fan the year before and I begged my parents to let me go see Iron Butterfly; I think this was after Erik Braunn left. My older brother came along, unfortunately our seats were behind the stage, the band was blocked by the big screen that they did the psychedelic light on. Don't remember a thing about the music or the show, but I do remember the huge cloud of smoke in the arena and wondering what it was.

First prog show was Yes at the Hollywood Bowl, 6/21/75. I was 15, had started to smoke pot, the same brother and I got tickets about half way back. Unfortunately, I only knew the Relayer and Tales albums at that point, so all the CttE and Yes Album stuff was a blur. The visuals and sound were incredible, very nice with the chemical enhancement, I was blown away by Ritual. My brother and I took a bus back to our grandmother's house where we were staying and as we were walking from the bus stop, three guys started chasing us. We made it OK, an exciting end to a memorable night. Just wish I knew the Close to the Edge album at the time......

Jethro Tull for the 'Too Old..." tour. It was a festival at the LA Colosseum. Opening bands were: Starcastle, Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower
Me and three friends went, Starcastle came on first and we laughed during their whole set about what a Yes ripoff they were. We liked Rory Gallagher, but loved Robin Trower, who played as the sun was going down. He hit this long, sustained note during Daydream that was amazing. Tull was very good, but even then I regretted missing the A Passion Play show.

Great show, until the giant food fight broke out during Tull that went on an on. It truly sucked. Not the concert, which was great!
Hahaha, that food fight was unreal. Sad to say, I'd see far worse at future concerts.

First prog concert: ELP May 1974 in Rotterdam; I was 15 at the time. Can't remember much of the concert other than that I was very impressed by the surround sound when the final notes of Karn Evil 9 were played.
There's a great sounding bootleg of this show that circulates, the Tarkus is incredible. Lucky you!

I saw the same tour in August...mine was supposed to be outside at the Oakland Coliseum but it was raining the day of the show so it was moved across the parking lot to the indoor Oakland Arena. Originally the lineup was supposed to be Camel, Rory Gallagher, Electric Light Orchestra, and Tull as the headliner. I would have loved to have seen Trower. Anyway, unfortunately, Camel cancelled but Rory did not

My sister and her friend somehow found themselves inside and were with Rush when they were practicing. Neil Peart noticed them and said "Let's do one for the girls" and they played Closer To The Heart. Later on, security found them and escorted them back through a surprised crowd outside who were waiting to get in.

James Taylor was my first concert back about 1977 at the Nassau Coliseum. Ticket price was around $5-7. The second show was Jethro Tull for about the same price.

Genesis Lamb Lies Down on Rochester War Memorial, Rochester NY - December 1974 - I was 15 and Genesis was my favorite band...I had heard some excerpts of the album on the radio and knew it was going to be slightly different; I had no idea. don't have the ticket stub or even any pro-shot film footage sadly. Exiting the theater I saw a kid walking with one of Phil's drum heads tucked nonchalantly under his arm...wonder if he was called Rael.
    Ticket price - around $10? I don't remember

First concert was at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in 1979 to see what was my favourite band back then in Aerosmith. I remember the opening song Back In The Saddle Again as it was quite memorable but nothing else about the concert was for me.

Cool! That was my first prog show too. I was 12, still have the ticket and both shirts I got that night. Remember being bummed some crappy local band opened up instead of the anticipated Max Headroom.

My folks took me to see Manilow in 1981 for my first concert. Not ashamed to say I loved every minute of it.

Well I won tickets to Hawkwind in late 1973, but the first true Prog group I bought tickets to was (like may other here), the band: YES, back in 1974 at the Long Beach Arena, I recall tickets were 4.50, $5.50 and $6.50, since I only made about $40 a month on my paper route, I recall rationalizing that I would go with the $5.50 tickets to save that extra buck...

and yes I still have the stub...and I was 15

First concert was 1978 in Dayton, Ohio at Hara Arena. Triple bill of Brownsville Station, Golden Earring, and Black Oak Arkansas.
    Ticket was 5.50

First prog show was Jethro Tull. Same year, same venue. This one was 6.50

Sadly, I don't have either stub. However, I still do have ticket stubs from other shows dating back to the late 70's.

My son's first concert was The Musical Box - Lamb Tour, around 2005, 2006? I wonder if he'll answer a thread like this with that one day... He was only about 7 or 8!
