I was a big fan of "Rockford" back in the day. Garner's always described as "one of the nicest actors in Hollywood." That's worth celebrating.

I used to watch Maverick as a very young child. Loved Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter. The Notebook was a beautiful film. He's missed.

RIP James. Support Your Local Sherriff was good, but for me his best movie role was in "The Great Escape".

I'm remembering an interesting movie called Mister Budwing. The Great Escape was so good with Garner and McQueen and a great ensemble cast.

It's all been said here already, it is sad indeed. Loved "Rockford", and also remember how great he was as the befuddled gangster in "Victor Victoria".

RIP to an actor that just exuded the kind of vibe that made you sure he was one of the nice, down to earth guys.

Garner was a masterful, expert driver. He was so good at stunt driving the producers of Rockford allowed Garner to do his own stunt driving, instead of using the contracted "pro" drivers(something almost unheard of in Hollywood at the time).

Rockford Files was indeed a fun show to watch. It always seemed like they didn't take things too seriously.

He was in a movie I remember seeing in the 80's, playing an Army tank commander whose teenage son gets arrested by an asshole small town sheriff, so he breaks the son out of jail using his tank. Seem to recall it was a pretty good picture.

He also did the voice of God in a good but short lived show animated show about 15 or so years ago, called God, The Devil And Bob.
