    Tim Hodgkinson, Onsets

I've just started playing the new Tim Hodgkinson album, Onsets. Track 1, "Ici-bas": my cat fled in terror, but has now returned to investigate.

Track 3, "Amhas/Nirriti": initially relaxed, but then stared at the speakers during the first crescendo.

Then hid under the sofa at the conclusion.

As for me... it's OK. I guess this is where Hodgkinson is these days, but I preferred his '90s work like Pragma, which is more melodic and more complex in its arrangements.

Can you describe the music -- is it atonal noise fests?

Not quite, not like Konk Pack can be. There's more structure here: plenty of atonality but with distinct passages and orchestration. It's vaguely reminiscent of GYBE! in places, that post-rock use of noise but as something that can ebb and flow and evolve.
