I have never seen an audience more bored by a band. Absolutely not the right audience.. And people filming seventies concerts were always the worst judge of what was a good shot or not.
Did a revist to both Slag Tanz and Riah S....both pretty amazing.

I am rather shocked to see that the latest issue of The Wire mentions Magma not once but 3 times- and it is all fairly positive. There is a good review of Kartehl, a main article on the early days of French music with a focus on Magma's first few records, and then a nice interview with Richard Pinhas where he discusses the relations between him and Magma, even to the point of stating he is Stella Vander's cousin- I could not tell if he meant this literally or metaphorically. But from a magazine that has never treated Magma kindly, this is rather interesting.

I didn't know either but google revealed:
Richard Pinhas: "My cousin is Stella Vander from Magma, so Christian Vander was my cousin-in-law."

Weird- that is the exact, verbatim, quote in Wire. But I did not know this. Cool! Nor did I know Klaus Blasquiz played with Richard before he joined Magma.

There are other family links in Magma. Jean-Pierre Fouquey, who played in some Magma and Vander Trio line-ups (and debuted on the Forgas "Cocktail" album aged 17) is Benoît Widemann's cousin.

would probably be easier to name French people who are NOT related to a member of Magma in some way

An early photo of Schizo, I think. Anyway, Klaus and RP in 1969

And, yes, RP and SV are actual cousins.

Apparently, Blasquiz and Pinhas were in another band after Blues Convention that was called Stuff.
Blasquiz told me he had the privilege of introducing Soft Machine on stage when they played Le Bataclan in June 1969, he being in one of the many support bands of what was basically a festival of young French bands with Softs headlining. Not sure whether that band would have been Blues Convention or Stuff.
