Thread: Magma news

Hoping to go to this, travelling from the UK and unfamiliar with Paris. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay near Le Triton? There doesn't seem to be much accommodation in the area. Alternatively what are the transport options at the sort of time it is likely to finish (I imagine after 11pm given the 9pm start) to get me to somewhere where there is accommodation?

OK, so a bit of research seems to indicate that Metros run until about 00:30 weekdays (thinking about a Thursday show at the moment). Mairie des Lilas station is just around the corner from Le Triton. As an example, there is a direct connection to Republique so maybe it would make sense to look for somewhere to stay around there.

I believe the last one is ca. 0.40am + about an extra hour in Fridays/Saturdays.

And to Chatelet-Les Halles, the main metro hub in Paris, that's about 20/25 minutes away.

Thanks for the info calyx. As it turned out, there was a decent looking hotel available just a short walk from Republique so I have gone for that.

I can't believe I am finally going to get to see Magma!

I'll be going three times, once every week. I think it'll be really worth it - the "E-Rê" trilogy with Widemann on guest keys is just about the dream programme for me. Perfection would be for the Paganottis & Borghi to return but that seems too much to ask unfortunately.

I have to agree about the programme (which is why I just could not miss this one). I am a relative newcomer to Magma, and the Epok DVDs and the modern albums from KA onwards define the band for me at least as much as the 70s recordings so it is a dream come true for me. (Also agree about the Paganottis but we can't have everything I guess.)

The setlist will be the same for all weeks?
I am planning to see the 2 first shows of the last week (before I head to the Lindsay Cooper memorial)

There's a great kind of boho hotel about five minutes walk or less from the Triton called Paul Du Coq (or something similar) not posh by any means but clean with a nice vibe. I always used to stay there for gigs at Le Triton. They often put the bands up there too.

That great, great hotel is GONE!

    I loved that place.

Hotel Paul de Coque (or something close; Aymeric will correct me as needed!)

Unfortunately Hotel Paul de Kock is really closed for good. Aymeric has told me that. By the way, I'll be attending the very last Magma gig at Le Triton, one day after the Henry Cow gig in London. On Thursday I'll be attending a gig by Johnny Mac and the 4th dimension in London. I am *really* happy. Probably the craziest thing I ever did finantially speaking as flying from Brazil is not cheap at all.

New Magma always piques the interest. I can't believe that the last time I saw them play a gig was in '73, when they and Isotope opened for RTF at the Guildford Civic Hall.

Its actually not as crazy as it sounds. There is a CD from 95 (Bussonet plays the bass): http://seventhrecords.com/CVANDER/AKT7/cdbabayaga.html ( http://v2.seventhrecords.com/en/mp3-...-magma-61.html )
And its not bad - just rather different. Its funny that a quite difficult piece of music can be performed by children.

Though they did simplify the lines for the kids- some of whom are also musicians for the project, as well as those singing. I wonder if the Metallik Orkestra material will ever be released?

I know this CD, and still think it is quite bizarre

    Hmm..

Amazon list "Riah Sahiltaahk" somewhat earlier for a 9th Sep. release.

They also list something called "Axiom" for the 4th Nov.

So I'm afraid it will be the two EPs instead of a single album.
