^seeing as Stella is the one with the (managerial) reins, I reckon the tensions came from her.

As I understand it, the sacking was not Vander’s decision. The tensions were elsewhere. Some FB posts following the Philharmonie concert in June had made me worried about the state of relationships between members of the team on and off stage.
No other bass player in Magma's history locked so well with CV than Bubu (the fights with Jannick confirm this); if it was up to CV himself, Bussonnet would have remained on board.

Here are two new interviews with Christian Vander both with subtitles, and both pretty interesting. The one discussing Coltrane is really quite detailed and informative!

An immense talent. Will listen to One Shot and some bootlegs of his period with Magma.

Crushing news! I knew that the course of glioma and astrocytoma is typically very poor, but enough time had passed for me to hold out hope- and I am so sorry that James is no longer with us! James' unflagging positivity and expressive style of playing remains in my heart and I will be playing that amazing solo from Kohtarksoz over and over today, the one where he simply tears the stage apart.

    Tears!

    Oh no!! Terrible news

I remember when I helped bring Magma to Chicago back in the nineties and I had the opportunity to chat with him. Such a nice, friendly guy...his main concern was to be pointed to the nearest "guitar store" just so he can look around, didnt need anything, he just wanted to look around.

    RIP James!

    RIP.

I know the mods tend to throw these things around but IMHO he deserves a dedicated RIP thread.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

1999 at Martyrs. I have that entire concert on CD, including his solo during Kohntarkosz and the gorgeous unison playing in the exceprt fromTheus Hamtaahk.

    Sad but not unexpected.

Just listening his solo album from last year. It is quite interesting addition to zeuhl-canon.

Very sad news. After the Magma concert in Victoriaville, Quebec, I got a chance to chat with him for awhile. Such a nice guy, with a great sense of humor. He was very happy to talk to us and ended up hanging out with a friend of mine, until the early hours of the morning.

And such a great guitarist, too. RIP James.

    Oh, so sad.
Somehow I thought he was getting better, so sad.
I feel privileged to have a few chances to see him with Magma, and his legacy will live on, with Magma and with his 2 excellent solo albums.

Man, what a talent. And such a wonderful human being. He was so happy to show my girlfriend and I photos of his children, when we got to chat with him.
