Did it really need another remaster?

In other news, looking forward to hearing James Mac Gaw's solo album which is coming out next Thursday.

Not really - unless you get particular with the mix of the drums.
IMO they are too loud (bassdrum especially) compared to... lets say Live Hhai (which is a fantastic recording).

Is this new edition a remaster or a remix?

imo, Emehntehtt-Rê and particularly Slag Tanz would benefit from a refurbishment. The others sound fine to me.

A remaster can't do much to solve mixing issues; what Magma needs is a bunch of remixes. I don't think they still have the master tapes for the pre-Merci stuff, so there's that, but they should have the original files for K.A and beyond.

How about Theater Du Taur instead?

Or the Kohntarkosz trilogy performed live on CD?

Any idea what the bonus track is?

The instrumentation is awesome (as is the piece itself) but those lead vocals are a bit of an acquired taste...

James record is superb and not at all what I expected. Do you know who is playing with him on this? Sounds like Bubu on bass, and maybe Gleizes or Jondeuhr? Who is singing?

ok, that is a pretty cool bonus. anyone know if this is coming out on vinyl?

IMO those albums aren't really in need of a remaster - it's the studio albums that need a new mix. crazy to me that their most famous album is one in which you can barely even hear the drums!

    MDK?

Speaking for myself, I certainly wouldn't turn down a new mix of those studio albums. It would be nice to hear the drums more prominent in the mix.

I dont think that will ever happen. There is no master tapes available.
But a remastered version exist, and it is slightly better

Well, I figured it was only a pipe dream but I didn't realize that the master tapes weren't even around. That's a bummer.

Some sections of this album are STUNNING! Daniel Jeand’heur does brilliant job on drums.

Do you know whether it is the same master used in the studio zund box?

    Probably not.
The Studio Zund versions from 2008 are the same masters as the individual CDs on Seventh records from the 90's.

For MDK, it's a bit more complicated : the first CD edition from 1988 was a needle drop (and included a bonus track).
This has been replaced by the aforementioned editions, now superseded (one hopes) by the current 2017 remaster.
There is also another edition of MDK, released in 2009 by Mercury in a vinyl replica sleeve. This is worth looking for, as
it appears to use a different, warmer sounding iirc, master (the performance is the same).

Now this I did not know. Thanks for the heads up.
