Rest in peace.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
Very sad...
The whales are wailing.
His "Inside" was one of the first albums I bought, one of the first to open my ears to other ways of hearing, one of the first to express other forms for music (long before Jon Hassell or Laraaji). Horn's "Inside II" is still one of the most sublime and underappreciated albums out there.
Paul's work toward peace all around the world was an inspiration. He made a difference.
I remember borrowing the one he recorded in the Great Pyramid in Egypt from the library back when I was a teenager. I recall he went into great detail in the liner notes about the debacle of making the session happen. I gather that since he was Jewish, he was advised that traveling to Egypt was a bad idea.
I think I also have a record around here someplace he recorded in the 80's, where he recorded in a cathedral in Russia.
I knew his son Robin when I lived in Tucson. He’s a talented drummer and musician in his own right. RIP Paul Horn. Condolences to his family and friends.
Great man. Love so much of what he did. Earth Song, is an amazing piece.
Have several of his CD's. A bit like Paul Winter in that he started out as a jazz musician, moving towards world and new age later.
I guess I kind of steered clear of getting any of his stuff because what I read seemed to indicate that it was more about where it was recorded than about what was being played. That said, I have a few things that you could argue fall into that category somewhat; Barbara Thompson's Songs From The Center Of The Earth and Ian Carr's Sounds & Sweet Airs the first ones that come to mind.
