Riverside - Shrine Of New Generation Slaves (Classic Rock - seriously?)

First of all, I'm pretty excited for this and it will be an autobuy for me.

But second, here's the description that BurningShed sent:

Poland's Post-Prog giants return with Shrine Of New Generation Slaves.

Handsomely packaged in a Travis Smith (Katatonia, Avenged Sevenfold etc) cover, SONGS promises a further development of the band's modern take on Classic Rock.

Available as a limited edition double cd mediabook and a double vinyl version in gatefold sleeve. Both formats contain two epic bonus tracks, Night Session Parts One and Two.

Pre-order now for January 21st release.

I don't think I've ever considered them doing a modern take on Classic Rock. Am I just not hearing that? Or is the band going a new direction - a la Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Dark Suns? Or is this just the label talking?

Last, I didn't ever catch the acronym of SONGS before. Very tricky, guys. Now get back to writing more music.

Yeah, I got the same Burning Shed email and was surprised by the description. But not to worry as I highly doubt that Riverside wants to turn into Led Zeppelin! And Songs must be a typo error. Either the Burning Shed marketing person was stoned or needs to be replaced! I'm confident that Shrine will be another great PROG release, and I too am looking forward to it.

I don't know, their last album was Anno Domini High Definition (ADHD).

Yeah, I assume it was on purpose. I just did not catch it until the e-mail pointed it out.

Not sure I get the "classic rock" reference either. No big deal, it seems the writer believed they were already playing the same style before this album. I don't expect a big change in direction, I think they know what they are good at. Definite auto-buy. And I get to hear much of the new music live when they headline Rosfest!

    SONGS

Actually, I think they got "SONGS" from taking the first letter from each word in the album's title.

    Yeah, thus the acronym.

I can ALMOST see from their live album how you might get classic rock from it.

    I loved that last EP

I don't have any problem with the description.....I take their use of the term "Classic Rock" to mean something in the Floyd-ish direction, so if that's the kind of marketing-speak they want to use, it's not *that* far off.

    Deluxe Version?

Does anyone know if the Burning Shed version of the new Riverside CD is an exclusive version which I can only get through them?

Burning Shed doesn't have any exclusivity on any Inside Out releases. Riverside is going to be available domestically in 2 CD editions as well as vinyl.

Looking forward to it, no matter how you spell it or describe it!

Sounds promising. And if the songs focus on riffing and more streamlined melodic delivery then the "classic rock" description might not be too far off.

Digging those audio samples quite a bit.

In 2013, the release of any new album must be mix of excitement and depression. Excitement because the hard work of creating your art is getting into the hands of your fans, and depression because of the masses of pig-fuckers who are going to pirate it.

Exactly - the trouble with pigeon holing is that it plays with the mind a little and excites others

The single they released Celebrity something...sounded pseudo-Tullish (think there were flute like patches the keyboardist used) and didn't do much for me.

Seems they mellowed a bit. I'm a little concerned, the audio sample didn't exactly thrill me. I still trust the album will be good.

^ yep, wasn't blown away or anything, but I have preordered the disc

Track listing and cover art can be found on the band's web site.

    http://www.riversideband.pl/en/news/...the-tracklist/

I also found information on a different site about the extra tracks from the special edition of the album.

    CD 2:
Night Session - Part One 10:45
Night Session - Part Two 11:32

    Regards,

^ Those sound like and probably are really lame dicking-around-in-the-studio cover versions of Floyd tracks...but would like to be proven wrong.
