Perhaps the "Do You Know Progressive Music?" could be changed to a more general purpose captcha of some sort? Instead of being, as it seems now, mildly excluding to people not aware of big-P prog or old guard or dinosaur bands or whatever...

I suspect at least 95% of PE members will know the answer. For the others - we'll be happy to tell everyone the answer to the question over on the old PE system. (Plus - Google would provide the answer in about half a second.)

How about a "What progressive music were you listening to when you (re-)joined ProgressiveEars?"
The question is fine.
Compact Disk brought high fidelity to the masses and audiophiles will never forgive it for that
The question doesn't show up on mobile, unfortunately, so I had to ask Sean what the answer was! I'm lucky I wasn't accused of being an imposter and booted off the PE island. :-)

the question should have been "What is Prog?"

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
I think the question is too easy. Besides, anyone can google it. I don't expect it to be something like "what was Steve Howe's dog's name" or something like that but still I think the question was just a tad too easy.

No - the question is fine.
These people have "bots" - programs that crawl the web and attempt to auto-register on every forum they can find. If the auto-registration fails, the bot simply moves on to the next forum. There (usually) isn't a human involved, and if there is, they would not bother - they'd just move on to the next victim and leave us in peace.

It sure defines the age group and narrows the definition of progressive music... which I think will be a tiny treshold against getting new and younger folks to the boards.
You really think it will have that much of an impact?
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally
Nonetheless, on April 1st you could get sadistic by locking everyone out and then changing the question to something truly ridiculous. Ask for Lino's birthdate!
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
Only one question? There should be an thorough EXAM with grades before the general public are allowed into our hallowed halls. Keep out the riff-raff.
I'll get my coat
