    TesseracT - change of singer

    Hi folks;

For those who dig Tesseract: apparently the newer singer (on Altered State) has left the band amicably and their original singer (from One) is back in the band:

I thought the new guy was really great on record, but was struggling when I saw them live. Hopefully the original guy has the pipes to stand up to the live abuse. Plus, I thought he brought a slightly edgier tone to their tunes that I definitely liked

    Anyway....PROGGY METAL

I love the newest Tesseract release. I thought the vocalist's emotional delivery on the CD fit the music well.

I haven't heard too much of the earlier material with the other vocalist. I will check it out.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

The first album is a bit more aggressive, both musically and vocally (but emphasis on a "bit"...this isn't like a whole new band or anything). I personally like it a bit more, but both albums are great IMHO

Considering the only time I saw them live was with Tompkins as lead, I'm fine with it.

I wonder what it means for Skyharbor tho.

Color me happy! I didn't like the new vocalist and glad they reverted to the original, gruffer guy.

    GrrRRrRrrRR!

Duncan's going to make a Horns Emoticon!!!

I second the view that Tompkins was more capable as a vocalist with a lot more tones up his sleeve than o'Hara. Occasional grunts etc... Wish Tesseract could throw in some extensive quitar soloing apart from riffing and shredding. Apparently Tompkins released some unrelated material and ran vocal coaching in the interim...

I agree with this. I don't think it needs to be extensive or on every song, but I'd like to hear them stretch out a bit and do some melody lines.
    Their rhythm section is great!

Tompkins really matured since leaving the band after One. I really like the SkyHarbor and White Moth Black Butterfly releases he has been involved in. He claims he will continue all bands. Hope so, SkyHarbor is on par with Tesseract. Similar, perhaps a little more technical.

SkyHarbor has a new release coming. I pledged on PledgeMusic towards their second release. Looking forward to it.

Skyharbor-Maeva... listening on youtube now. This stuff is seriously cool! And Tompkins is an exceptional vocalist indeed. Wondering if he really recorded all of that in one take

I think that was just a take of him singing live against the backing tracks, not the actual performance that was recorded. though, i could be wrong.

pretty amazing to see his approach. even for the emotional and aggressive moments, his approach is methodical and controlled.

below is the link for pledging towards their second album. the first single, Evolution, is really good. has the heaviness, technical moments, and very melodic.

yip, awesome! I'll dig into White Noise... methodologically that'll be my second band from India on the shelf. First one was Kashish.

Not happy about this. The guy who just left was awesome. Never heard the first guy before, I seem to have an instrumental version of the first album, unless maybe they have more than two discs. Confusing.

I just heard a track on radio by a Perth duo called Absent Hearts: "City of Glass".

I was rather impressed and did a bit of Googling for Absent Hearts. I discovered to my surprise that one of the duo is Dan Tompkins, apparently the same Dan Tompkins from TesseracT.

Absent Hearts sound quite different from the little I know of TesseracT. There is definitely no "shredding". A bit like comparing Storm Corrosion with early Opeth.

Oh sweet...I'd not heard that before. Very nice stuff, thanks!

Tompkins also did the vocals on the first two Skyharbor albums, which were a bit like TesseracT but also a bit more melodic/atmospheric. This is one of the nicer tunes on the album, with visuals done by the same cat who has done vids for Storm Corrosion and Wilson's stuff:
