Hi, Im kinda new to this forum so i may not be up to speed on proper etiquette and things (yet) , but thought i would give a post here about a new band "Aeon Satori" that i am very excited about. Would love for someone who has not heard their music to rate the song (SUNLIGHT) in the link below and let me know what you think of it. I personally feel this song and their song "RISE" be epic prog songs, (although I am not certain of specific prog genre these tunes may be best classified) but these works seem to be growing on me and seem to never tire well after a first listen. Am wondering what some other veteran PROG ears might think... Please give a listen and share your critical experience i'm kinda excited about this thanks so much for allowing any consideration in participation

^^Welcome and good introduction-band. Instrumentally (especially in the keyboard-arrangements) AeonSatori have a Happy The Man-sound, which I like.
I notice this is from 2015, so a full (physical) album would be a nice follow-up

    Ola Kvernberg “Steamdome”
    On 10/05/2016
Great to be part of violinist Ola Kvernberg’s new project called “Steamdome”, a rhythmical machine featuring three drummers, two organs, bass, guitars and violin. Coming out of Ola’s work with music for movies, this steam engine of a group is painting wide horizons with it’s cinematic music. Premiered at Trondheim Jazz Festival in May 2016 and to be played at Molde Int. Jazzfestival in July as well as a planned recording session and tour during the coming year.

    that was thoroughly enjoyable

I need to get this album
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Johannes Luley has released a new solo-album, called "Qitara". It shows his love for progressive jazz-rock/fusion, including some covers of tracks by Jan Hammer and George Duke. One of the guest-players is Scott Kinsey (from Tribal Tech).

Tom Slatter - Murder and Parliament

Tom Slatter is an English Singer/songwriter with several previous releases under his belt, but this time he's done an album soley of instrumentals -guitar led but with a full band sound -he plays all instruments including drums with two guest on bass and violin. Its a good album and doesn't really sound like anyone else I can think of -perhaps a bit like Earth Sized Diamonds, but that comparison is not gouing to help many people. Lets say largley melodic but with plenty of invention and a few atmospheric pieces - a little RIO but no ventures into free improvisation or anything to frighten people. https://tomslatter.bandcamp.com/albu...and-parliament

No new album (yet?) but Patrick Watson released a new single, called Broken. Still beautiful.

I'm curious about the soundtrack he made for The 9th Life Of Louis Drax, released in 2016.

    https://dominiquevantomme.bandcamp.com/

Dominique Vantomme of VANTOMME, is a pianist, keyboardist, composer, band leader, music educator and producer, equally well known for his work with many European pop and rock acts as for being the jazz piano instructor at the Music Conservatory in Kortrijk, Belgium. This album was born from his nomadic adventures: traveling in 2016 to see Stick Men, in Holland, and meeting up with old pal, MoonJune's Leonardo Pavkovic; and shortly thereafter befriending the legendary bassist/stickist Tony Levin of the King Crimson, Peter Gabriel and Stick Men hall of fame. In the studio session which shortly followed, Dom and Tony were joined by veteran MoonJune artist, also from Belgium, Michel Delville (The Wrong Object; douBt; Machine Mass), who was recruited on guitar, and another Belgian musician, Maxime Lenssens, tasked with holding down the timekeeping duties. The spontaneity and freshness of this sizzling, high-altitude set reflects the equally unpretentious manner in which the session itself came together. Tackling some decidedly hip musical sketches of Dominique Vantomme, the band is given full artistic liberty – and with all participants in top form, the resulting music weaves and winds its way across paths previously untrodden ... in stunning fashion, and with sure footing! In the truest MoonJune tradition, "Vegir" thumbs its nose at convention and showcases these seasoned veteran musicians at the top of their game: with the skill set, bravery and chutzpah to follow their instincts and, in the process, allow the music to seek out and ultimately capture its own form. It slinks; it growls; it stalks; it devours! It grooves; it stutters; it holds you in suspense, then explodes! (... think 'juggling chainsaws' in the sonic realm.
