^^I'm not being critical at all, and apologies if I'm misunderstanding the intent, but I find it hard to understand that people won't buy a band's album from bandcamp just because it may not be available on CD. Hey, you can always download high res, lossless files and make your own CD-R!
It's not that easy for bands, especially depending on what country they are in, to make CDs anymore. I know in Canada, friends of mine who released a prog album this year (U.C.), found it financially unfeasible to make CDs and the band that I am in are finishing up an album, and we likely won't be able to make CDs work, from a monetary stand point, either.
To each their own, of course.

I don't care about files and I don't like CD-Rs. I like officially released, pressed CDs with some kind of artwork and liner notes, and that's simply the way I'll always be. My music collection is my hobby and what I devote almost all my time and money to, it's just what I like. I bought a couple of albums in the past in hi-res file format, and I never listen to them because when I'm scanning my shelves, I never think 'I should sit down at the computer and see what's there instead'. If I'm in the minority or a dying breed, so be it, but it's physical format or nothing for me. Any forced attempt at adapting would likely see me just settling into the vast collection I've already got, which will see me through the rest of my life anyway.

Exactly my point of view as well. And I also see it this way: you can spend every penny just once, so if I have the choice between a download and a physical album I'll choose the latter, even if the first was an Allan Holdsworth-song. Lucky us there's still a lot of music that is being released in a physical form.
Forgive the ignorant question, but...can hi-res files be burned to CD-R and played in a CD player? I always assumed there is a format difference to the files, but would be happy to find out otherwise.
I completely get it, and as ineterbellum shows, you're not alone in that viewpoint. I'm certainly not here to try and change anyone's mind (though I hope nobody expects bands to lose money just so they can have that CD in their hands and on their shelf). I used to be the same. And then the Canadian dollar went to shit and postage rates started going through the roof. I realized that I had to make a choice. There was no way I could afford close to $30 a CD, considering the amount of new music that I acquire every year. After that, it became easy. As much as I like artwork and liner notes, the music is first and foremost (which is, I assume the same for the majority of people).
I find it a shame that bands who may soon be financially unable to manufacture CDs, will lose listeners, but that is the nature of the beast.
I now have my own moral dilemma to contend with. If a band is on bandcamp, then all is well. If they don't use it (the label doesn't allow it, they just aren't interested, etc.), then my problem can be how to get their music. I won't use spotify, I hate itunes and getting actual files from amazon music can be problematic, when living in Canada. So, if that is the case, I have run into a handful of occasions this year, wherein I have just downloaded the music off of youtube, or gotten the album from a friend. Troubling, when I want to give the artists money for their music.
Interesting times, indeed. And now, back to new releases.

Oh, absolutely not. It's just an unfortunate reality for those on both sides - the musicians and the fans. Less of a problem for those lucky enough to like (or even prefer) downloads. I wish I was one of those people, but it just doesn't work that way for me.
BTW, Alco Frisbass has said on their FB page that they want to do a CD run of the new album, they are waiting to see how well it does with digital sales first.

Faun Fables are hinting at new music on their Facebook page, so that would be really cool.

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
Hi-res files can be burned to CD-R in 'data format' and then replayed on a CD player that has both data disk reading abilities and audio codecs for the file format used. Most strictly CD players do not have high resolution audio codecs in their firmware, so while many can read data discs, most won't help you listen to hi-res audio. The 'digital audio' format for CD specifies the audio encoding as two channels of 16 bit linear pulse code modulated waveform sampled at 44,100 bits per second. As a result, standard CD-DA formats (traditional CDs) cannot carry hi-res audio. DVD-A and HFPA offer digital audio formats for DVD and Bluray respectively, but discs in this format are not common, and playback for these formats is not universal among current players.
Generally speaking, while there are particular hardware and software solutions to burn native HFPA-authored Bluray audio discs with hi-res audio, it is much easier to use flash media and a simple streaming media player to accomplish this.
no one cares about new Accordo dei Contrari album? :-(
