Thread: AAJ Review: Tim Bowness, Abandoned Dancehall Dreams

  1. #26
Very pleased that I picked this one up.

And I've never heard a note of No Man. I just read Kelman's review and it sounded like an album for me.

Guess I'll have to start buying some No Man stuff.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

Glad to see this thread bumped again.

So on the Thursday after the album came out, I find myself pondering a drive to my nearest decent brick & mortar (Rhino - Claremont) but to burn about $10 in gas for the trip just couldn't be justified. Besides, I dropped a couple bills a couple weeks prior. Therefore, Amazon to the rescue. They must like me, I'm not a prime member but I dropped $40 order (Tim Bowness / SW cover version CD / Steve Hackett - RAH) and it was on my doorstep on Saturday.

As for the album, it is everything I expected. Much more fleshed out than the last Bowness solo effort. The pounding beat of the opener "The Warm-Up Man Forever" fleetingly reminds me of Blackfield's "Once".

My number 1 of 2014 thus far, biased as I might be.

Very good album. Nice rich arrangements and great production. It might be better than any No-Man album. Little too early to tell.

Yeah...I've been enjoying this one quite a lot. Definitely some cool new approaches from Bowness, killer arrangements and excellent performances all around.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I finally am listening to this no No-Man release from Tim Bowness, and it is totally luscious. A no-brainer for No-Man fans, but I believe many others would love this, too. As mentioned above, this might be the best No-Man release yet! It's nice to see that Tim could excel with this material even with limited contributions from Steven Wilson.

If you didn't hear about it when it came out in June, hopefully this "bump" of this thread will rekindle some curiosity.
