I've heard of two other acts on that list. Thankfully out of the loop. But meaning to check out his record at some point

The issue of Uncut (with Paul Weller on the cover) has been out about 3 weeks in the UK. Here's a quote from a fan that's used in the article:

"Dylan Howe makes it new. The way he plays it, it's as if bebop were still hot and wet from its Harlem womb - he plays time from the heart." Robert Wyatt

That's a nice thing for him to have said. Dylan appears to be a member of this forum btw (I noticed someone with his name was signed in earlier).

Wyatt's a big fan of Dylan (and hard to think of bigger praise than that). There was talk of collaboration at some point.

BTW, the album is available already via Bandcamp: http://dylanhowe.bandcamp.com/album/...-bowies-berlin

I didn't know about this one, I'll check it out. I would have though Dylan's performance with Daltrey and Wilko would have been on the list too, that's a great album and Dylan and Norman make such a dynamic rhythm section.

Just went to read the list at Uncut and it is alphabetical. Dylan may appear even higher if rated on merit!

Dylan Howe New Designs on Bowie’s Berlin

The danger in a jazz version of David Bowie and Brian Eno’s “Berlin Trilogy” music is that it might come out sounding older and less experimental than the 1970s originals.

Drummer and bandleader Dylan Howe’s rearrangements for his jazz quintet, plus guests, largely succeed in living up to their source material through various oblique strategies: using the eerie timbres of old analogue synths; avoiding overt homage in favour of subtle reinvention, and adding imaginative twists such as the Japanese koto played by Dylan’s dad Steve on the closing “Moss Garden”.

A more conventional jazz approach – Bowie goes bop? – on “All Saints” is less successful, but saxophonist Julian Siegel sounds superbly mean and moody.
