Here's another:
Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City
cover by Whitesnake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RCfdT99eDY
Fair question--if there's a line between "yes" and "no," the answer would be close to the line on either side. I thought the goals of BoF were different than just reforming The Yardbirds, but don't know if there were any non-artistic (e.g., legal) reasons for the different moniker. Maybe a parallel would be...was Coverdale/Lord/Paice Whitesnake "covering" Might Just Take Your Life or Soldier of Fortune when played live? Also...not sure if the Frogs/'Birds were trying to sound contemporary for the kids when they brought in Roger Chapman for vox on a couple tracks!
Tangent Alert!!: No doubt folks here are aware that Hackett played on some tracks from the Strange Land album by Box of Frogs. The following link...

...indicates two tracks, but the Strange Land cassette also has Hackett playing lead guitar on the songs "I Keep Calling" and "20/20 Vision."

Another cover I like more than the original: Deep Purple "River Deep, Mountain High"...although the original from I&TT is no slouch. Just personal taste.
A couple off the top of my head not mentioned yet:
The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off
The Cake tune is pretty cool. I like the original quite a bit (if there is such a thing as a guilty pleasure).

It's a spoonerism
Wow, I never thought I would get an erection listening to Land Of Confusion. Life is strange...
Oh yeah, and I prefer the Head East and Cherie & Marie Currie versions of Since You've Been Gone over the Russ Ballard original.
Here's one that I imagine a lot of PEers will appreciate. Sara Bareilles has an amazing voice ...

Here's one that was listed in the worst Bob Dylan covers list in The 100 Worst Rock N Roll Albums Of All Time, along with the GNR version. Apparently, the authors didn't dig power ballad versions of Dylan's songs. But this is the first version of the song I heard, and I always liked it best. I love the sampled choir playing the chords during the verse:
Here's the Cherie & Marie Currie version of Since You've Been Gone, which seems to be the only version that places the instrumental solo before the bridge (every other version has the solo after the false ending):
And here's the Head East version:
The original is one of my most hated Yes songs...but I like this tribute, it manages to capture both the old style Yes and the Rabin 90125 era, especially with the accapella vocals.
