Blood Ceremony: retro heavy prog from Canukistan

I just read about this band on NPR and the cample rocks quite righteously. Anyone familiar with this band and are they worth seeking out?

And who the hell was Iron Claw?

Oh yes, I know them. Great band - a sort of Tull meets Sabbath hybrid with a bit of Fairport thrown in for good measure. Very authentic sounding retro doom metal / folk / prog. I have their most recent, The Eldritch Dark - worth checking out if you like this kind of stuff. Oh, and they've got a new one coming out next month!

I started a thread about this band about a year and a half ago.. It got the usual 3 posts and faded away... I have all 3 releases. They're fairly interchangeable. I'm partial to the debut but that's often the case with these retro bands. I haven't seen them live yet though they play this neck of the woods now and again, being from Toronto.

We never mentioned them in the stoner thread??

I dunno if they were ever brought up in the stoner thread. There's been so damn many bands we've gone through there it's hard to keep track. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I've found it takes a few threads about anything new before the general PE population starts to take notice.

About the band, I can't say I'm wowed based on the one YT clip. The danger with being so overtly derivative is you either have to be as good or better than the reference points, or you have to put a new spin on them, neither of which I'm seeing here. But I guess it's a statement on the wasteland that is modern rock music that young bands are happily trying to recreate a style (and even the promo films!) from 40 years ago.

I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

They're fun...if you can overlook the average vocal performance and cheesy lyrics. The debut seemed heavier than the subsequent releases...

I've been following them since their debut was released. Great stuff. Each album gets better, imo.

I've been curious about them for quite a while now, but never heard them. They've been covered in Prog mag a lot.

Saw the YT video. Meh. I'm just not into female fronted rock bands. Yeah, they're retro, yeah there's a Tull vibe, yeah, yeah. Not my cuppa.

I am gravely disappointed. I thought I knew you better. Perhaps when you're old and wizened you'll see this differently.

Cample- sample. A term coined here (accidentally) by Yanks.

Canukistan- Short for Soviet Canuckistan aka Canada; a socialist country that shares a 3000-mile border with the USA.
