Neo folk as defined in wiki = apocalyptic folk (mostly)

Freak folk: many of the bands referred in wiki are no folk at all (f.e. Akron/Family, Animal Collective (!!!!) and Cerberus Shoal)

Dark folk as defined in wiki = apocalyptic folk (mostly)

Post-industrial? I would rather add the dark ambient bands of the mid-90s and onward to that label. PGR, some Controlled Bleeding, Illusion of Safety, Lustmord, Aghast, half Cold Meat Industry artists etc. No EBM, industrial metal or japanese noise rock.

New Weird America a loose inaccurate term appried by "Wire" mag in order to iclude under one "genre" all this post 1995 US underground -whether folk/psych/spacerock/free rock/heavy rock/drone/experimental/post-anything...

I don't think a label is always a bad thing, but with too many overlapping or almost overlapping labels there comes a point when they confuse instead of clarifying.

    I like Folk Metal:

She was gold alright, but then so is rust.

There are a lot of Neo Folk/Folk Noir (or whatever) bands with some Prog Appeal.

    Some of my Italian faves:

The first four are usually englobed in the "Wyrd" folk umbrella, along with 00's psych folk
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

QFT. "New Weird America" is a tag so hopelessly outlandish that it renders the utterly stupid "prog" term all the safer.

The Wire (i.e. Simon Reynolds, an otherwise well versed music writer) had previously done something similar in inventing the "post-rock" moniker.

Man, that is absolutely fantastic. You've got a kind of Circulus meets All About Eve thing going on there. Brilliant. I love it.

This is the kind of undescribable mix of classical & folk stuff I like, which comes out of that mix of technical, indie, modern classical and folk. Folk instruments, classical instruments, accoustic and electric.

    OR this kind of stuff

    OR this
