Guessing that you hit the "9" by accident. Pretty sure it's a 1CD/1DVD.

    Well spot, yeah, I assume it's a 1CD/1DVD; The "(" is above the "9", which explains a lot ;-)

The Holdsworth estate has been quite busy with new releases. Outstanding! Others should take a cue from them (and the Zappa estate).

B.t.w. did anyone who loves Allan's music on LP buy the RSD 2020-release Road Games on vinyl? It contains one bonus-track, the title track sung by Jack Bruce, which was never released on LP before (although was included on the compilation-double album Eidolon.

For those interested, the bandcamp version (whether you but hard media or not) includes the album in high res, and it sounds fabulous.

Awesome, heavy tune! I hope there's a good recording for a future release.

^^ I preordered that one a few weeks ago, but found out the distributor offered Leverkusen '97.
Good you mentioned the release-date though; November it is.

I couldn't find where to preorder, though. Does anyone have a link?

http://www.artist-shop.com/comingsoon/index.htm listed the set a few weeks ago. You can pre-order by writing a mail.

Here is a good interview with Stephen Tayler on the One of a Kind, Bruford album.

    ONE OF A KIND

In the August 2021 issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine, recording engineer Stephen Tayler reminisces about the recording of "One Of A Kind":

"Allan was quite the character,” Tayler remembers. “I first experienced his work on the Gong album Gazeuse, which I mixed, then I worked with him on Feels Good to Me and the U.K. album. He was extremely focused and critical of his contribution, but very insecure about his playing, and never that happy about a performance. He wanted to keep doing things over, so we had to encourage him and finally tell him we'd captured it!”

“For overdubs, we started to have Allan play in the control room while feeding his signal to the studio floor. I usually recorded one microphone close to his cabinet, then I'd set up another at some distance to pick up the room sound to a separate track so I could create a balance. I remember recording Allan playing his Strat in the control room as we monitored really loudly so he could control tone and feedback.”

Belle Antique re-released a couple of albums Allan did for JMS-records with Gordon Beck. Finally Sunbird is available again (part of it was once added to The Things You See).

Anyone know of a live DVD that has The Un-Merry-Go-Round? The one time I saw it the power at the venue cut out in the middle, spoiled it!

I don't think there's a DVD featuring that track. It wasn't played very often live. You can hear part of it on this facebook-page provided by Ed Chang, who wrote Holdsworth biography some years ago: https://www.facebook.com/groups/alla...7288492727444/

This kills. I live this era of Holdsy before the more compressed tone (which I dig too). The rawness here is just so palpable though.

    Palpable?
This sort of stuff leaves me cold
I love his contribution to Soft Machine, Gong , Bruford, UK , Ponty
But this although from those yearsI couldn’t

I saw him in 85 in London that didn’t work for me too

I guess His magic has a limited effect on me

    Need to check Igginbottom Tempest

Holdsworth is my favorite guitarist, and while I love his work in bands like Bruford and Soft Machine, his solo records are on a whole other level. He somehow bridges the gap between cerebral and emotional for me, which is rare for such a technical musician to do (at least to my ears). Things like Sand, Hard Hat Area, and Secrets are beautiful beyond words IMO.
