Thanks for that clip, Dan. It looks great! I caught Allan that year but it was with J. Johnson and Chad Wackerman. If the country isn't in shambles in six weeks I'll order a copy.

Frankfurt 1986 concert to be released via Manifesto Records in May.
Thanks. I guess I'll be playing this more often than the Warleigh Manor-CD which arrived yesterday. The latter is more in the vein of those John Stevens-albums, which I only have in my collection for its completeness.

The only info I can find puts the date of the Warleigh recordings as "probably 1979", but the little bit of Holdsy heard in the preview clip seems to not reflect his sound of those days, and seems older.

The liner notes go into this specific. Allan was just "fired" from UK mainly because he wanted to improvise more and here he had the chance to do so. The liner notes were written by Ed Chang, who also wrote the biography.

As I'm starting to get more into 60s/70s Brit jazz, this seems to be appealing, so I'll check it out.

It looks like Jazz In Britain also releases downloads-only like this one from PAZ, Live In London '81: The Ron Mathewson Tapes Vol. 2 featuring Allan:

According to Cornelissen he's saving money to make a physical release available.

I didn't get the book because I heard it was a lot of technical writing which would have bored the crap out of me. I did get the new CD/DVD. I'm glad they have a keyboard player because the trio sometimes puts me to sleep.

Well, there is some technical writing in the book, but the most text is about the songs, the bands and how albums came about.
I'm not a musician and I liked it quite a lot.

It’s a good book with a lot of info regarding how some of his gigs came together, but’s it’s not a biography, or as well written as Sid Smiths KC tome. I enjoyed it. It’s a worthy companion to Allan’s music.

New archive-release coming up: The Unique Concert, featuring DIDIER LOCKWOOD – ALLAN HOLDSWORTH – GORDON BECK – ALDO ROMANO – JEAN-FRANÇOIS JENNY-CLARK.
This was recorded around the time of the Gordon Beck-Allan Holdsworth LP Sunbird so it seems, because some of the tracks from that album were played.

That would be cool. Funny thing is that through this release I discovered that Sunbird, which was never released on CD seperately, was released on CD in its complete form on a 1994 release of the combo The Things You See/Sunbird. My copy of that combo misses the long Flight. That 1994-version isn't on Discogs. It was a release by Les Disques Avant-Garde, catalogue-number AGCD-615.

I did some addition searching: it might be that Sunbird was released on CD by Cream in 1995.

In the liner notes of The Unique Concert Louise Holdsworth is one of the persons who receives Remerciements, so it looks like this one is approved by the family.
