my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
Wasnt that the Gong (un)convention in the Melkweg in Amsterdam?
Or that one came after?
And why did you almost regret it?
I went especially to London to see the RFH Acid Motherhood first show,
which was very weird (nothing like the album that followed, mostly noise and space jams),
I dont regret it because I had a chance to attend one of the now legendary Cardiacs Garage concerts
Also saw Phil Miller In Cahhots (with Elton Dean RIP) so had a good week, but if it were only for the Gong RFH show then I guess I would have been dissapointed.
A few years later I had my compensation in the form of a mind blowing Acid Mother Gong show in the Melkweg (un)convention...
Completely. One of my memories was Hillage standing in the wings during the AMG set, he was clearly enjoying it.
The point about Acid Motherhood was that it was a fresh approach, from a new lineup. Allen himself said after Zero to Infinity that they'd become a comfy old band. And of course, they had. 2032 was for me a little step backwards from AMG, but it also featured that ol' lineup with Steve and Miquette, it was their reunion with Gong.
It's probably safe to say that Gilli's days with Gong are behind us, and while Daevid's still kranking, gotta admit though that the live clip I posted was kinda... old school Gong. what excites me is that this could be the next generation of Gong, with Orlando at the helm.
Here's to hoping the new album reflects the new members, esp the guitar duo of Fabio and Korvus. That's a combo!

Given the mixed reviews of the more recent stuff I guess I'm going to wait on samples before buying this new one.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
Well, that's Daevid Allen- every few years he keeps completely reinventing himself and doing stuff that is just as good as any of his seventies output - be it solo (dreaming a dream), as University of errors (ex^2 tenure and live shows), Brainville (killer live shows), AMG (great studio and killer shows), let's hope this new Gong will be the next thing...

It seems so weird to me to see the hate for 2032, I've always viewed it as the poster child for how reunion albums should be done. It's essentially the same old Gong playing an updated take on their well established style. As for the production, it's a bit on the loud side, but at least it's clear (unlike Camembert and Teapot CDs).

Nope, I was at the Unconvention as well (if memory serves, that was in 2006).... But we're (at least I am) talking 2007/8 here... had a great time
I saw University of Errors twice... that was exilharating (that Polosh guitaristy is something else)
saw them twice too... once with Pip, the other with Chris Cutler in Canterbury... Stpendous both times.

I'll be honest, there's a part of me that has avoided that one based on cover art alone. How can an album cover that atrocious have good music on it? But, based on the reviews here, I feel like I should have it. Shame about the cover, though, it seems like I always see it among other classics like "Jesus Use Me" by the Faith Tones in bad album cover threads. I won't be setting my FB avatar to that anytime soon (well maybe ... )
Ya know, on second thought, maybe Duncan should mak it the featured album for a couple of days!!

Well, at least someone here can tell the diff between a reunion album and a new Gong album. (2032 - beautiful double vinyl, w/full size booklet, includes CD. That's how you do it ! I'm surprised it wasn't released as colored or Glow-in-dark!)
"Expect The Unexpected" and "It's Much Too Serious To Be Serious About" are Gong mottos of old. If you're expecting a CD of serious prog music, guess again. Daevid is not into 'the comfy armchair school of music'. Try not expect this release to be like the last one or the next one.
Zombywoof : If you 'dislike' the Acidmotherhood cover , NEVER CLICK ON THIS DAEVID ALLEN VIDEO !!!
http://youtu.be/W6IPIr8mQiE "Tick 'O cock" (some Daevid poetry, takes a minute or so to start)
Hate's a little strong for 2032... ambivalence? It's an okay album, but just not that great. My biggest issue is the length. I can never make it all the way through. Few great songs, Escape Control Delete still in the live show, but I much preferred the direction that Acid Motherhood was taking the band.
If you don't like the artwork for Acid Motherhood, then get a digital download! But by all means, that stretch from Bazuki Logix", "Waving", through "Makototen" is some of the most intense Gong committed in decades. Fantastic stuff.

Either I'm bad at following directions or just don't like being told what to do, but I clicked on the link. Complete live Gong? Video? WOW! Thanks!! I feel the same way about Gong that many people on PE feel about Yes or Genesis, so this is a cool find (and an unfortunate distraction from what I should be doing - studying).
And to be clear, I'm in no way offended by the Acid Mothers cover, I just find it a bit off putting. If it's got good music on it, I'll get over it!

I am not fond of it at all but Seriously I don't understand the whole fuss about Acidmotherhood cover...
well, it isn't pretty and rather tout (if not tackyà and not really in a Gong tradition...
But then again we're on a site where most hung-up progheads udder at the thought of GFTO and Hemisphere's artworks..
Personally, I much prefer the centrefold of the boolet with the seven or eight vaginas...

I really like(d) "2032" and Hillage/Giraudy involvement, I would have liked to see them in Gong forever. I see Gong as a floating musical entity going through ages, don't really need to hear the old stuff forever (for that we have Yes, Asia and all that nonsense), so different music, new sounds or musical directions like electronica are more than welcome for me.
