New Hiromi studio album in June: Alive

And it's another Trio Project effort. The first two were great IMO, "Voice" and "Move". Just love hearing Simon Phillips playing with Hiromi. Even better, there are US gigs coming, including a week at the Blue Note in New York, last week of June.

Here is the track listing for Alive:

    1. Alive
    2. Wanderer
    3. Dreamer
    4. Seeker
    5. Player
    6. Warrior
    7. Firefly
    8. Spirit
    9. Life Goes On

A shame she didn't stick with the one word titles for all 9 tracks.

Looks like I'll see the June 28th or 29th show in NY. This will be cool with the trio in a tiny club like the Blue Note. I saw her duo concert with Stanley Clarke there in 2012, and the original Sonic Bloom lineup back in 2007 at a proper auditorium in NJ. Of course I have all 4 of her live DVD's, including with this current lineup. Guess after this I need to see one of her solo performances too.

A few of these tracks from the new project were up on a dime upload of a concert she did London a little while ago.

Another autobuy here, but I'm pissed there are no midwest tour dates at all.

I can forgive Simon Phillips for leaving Toto if this is what he's doing now.

What I think is cool is that Phillips discovered Hiromi's music the same way many of us did, by watching a few Youtube clips. Now he's done 3 albums with her. I've never seen Phillips live, so that is yet another good reason to see the concert in June. I was supposed to see the trio last April, but health issues kept me away. Hopefully that is not the case this year.

I believe I read specifically, that he received an inquire from Hiromi, and he had not heard of her, so he first checked her out on Youtube.

She's only come to Chicago once (a few years ago) since she started the TRIO Project, and I was unable to go. I went to Minneapolis to catch her just as the first Trio CD came out, but Phillips didn't show up and was replaced by Steve Smith (Journey). I still don't see Chicago on her tour dates... She used to come all the time. I saw her here with Sonic Bloom, and then her Solo Piano tour.

He didn't skip a gig, he just didn't do one leg of a tour. I'm sure that's not what you meant, it just didn't sound right. Smith pretty darn good in his own right, not a bad replacement.

Yeah, Steve Smith's own fusion band, Vital Information, was nothing to sneeze at.

Correct, I was being a bit snarky... Phillips didn't play on the first 2 weeks, or so, of the first Trio Tour. Steve Smith was the stand in. He was great for sure! But, it wasn't the same as having Simon Phillips signature style.

Phillips is a monster, which is why I'll miss him in Toto. He was a great fit, and contributed much more than just drums.

I was very enthusiatic when I heard her first album and attended a small club gig in Hamburg shortly after.
The ELP and KC influences was there, but since then, she has become more and more mainstream, and even though her energy is still enjoyable, I lost interest.
btw She should also avoid playing that toy synth.

Wow, if Himomi is mainstream, then the world must be filled with incredibly awesome artistic and technically challenging fusion music. Sorry, I really disagree with you very strongly. But, you're entitled to your opinion.

And a Nord Lead is a toy?

Some recent mainstream stuff from Hiromi:

Nord Lead is maybe not a toy but it does not sound good in the hands of Hiromi. Otherwise I have enjoyed all of hers trio albums.

She's obviously very talented and hard working... this doesn't mean she has a unique voice as a player. When she played in Vancouver a few years ago I was glad she let David Fiuczynski push the music beyond anything that might be seen as mainstream.

There is nothing mainstream about her playing or compositions with the current trio, really surprising to read that opinion. I'd actually like to hear her play more synths, and not just for the more whimsical pieces. Actually her recent two trio albums have far less of that whimsical side, so if anything, her work is less mainstream.
