SYD ARTHUR NEWS - US TOUR!

Just got the latest email. First off, they've released video of some in-studio live sessions, including another new song off the upcoming album Sound Mirror. Here's "Hometown Blues":

The really good news is they're coming back to tour the US, and not just festivals this time. I know where I'll be on May 20th.

(I should add they're not headlining. They'll be supporting Sean Lennon's GOASTT project)

May 20th - San Francisco, Great American Music Hall
May 22nd - Seattle, The Crocodile
May 23rd - Vancouver, Imperial Vancouver
May 24th - Portland, Mississippi Studios
May 27th - Denver, The Bluebird Theater
May 28th - Omaha, The Waiting Room Lounge
    May 29th - Des Moines, Wooly's
    May 30th - Minneapolis, 7th St Entry
May 31st - Madison, High Noon Saloon
June 1st - Chicago, Lincoln Hall
June 3rd - Toronto, The Hoxton
June 4th - Montreal, La Sala Rossa
Jun 5th - New York, The Bowery Ballroom
    Jun 6th - Philadelphia, Johnny Brenda's
Jun 7th - Boston, Brighton Music Hall

Thanks for this post! Just bought tickets for the Bowery Ballroom. Never heard them before, but totally psyched, no pun intended, to see Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger! Listening to the vid you posted, and I love them, this is going to be a great show!!

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Just thought I'd update this thread. Sound Mirror is now up on Stereogum and can be streamed in its entirety.

Yeah, me too. It's very listenable on a first spin. I think they're trying to move away from the overt late 60s/early 70s vibe of the first album by incorporating some modern electronica touches but it's still pretty proggy under the hood. I'm just bummed it's so short. By my guesstimate it only clocks in around 35 minutes -- short even by vinyl standards!

They've added Bonnaroo to the tour. If only they could hit Asheville on their way to TN.

Nice set from Syd Arthur last night at the GAMH in SF. It mainly focused on the new album Sound Mirror (which was released in the US yesterday as well), with a few songs off of On An On. Several songs were extended into psych rock jams featuring Raven's mandolin shredding and it's great to see a band lock into each other during moments like that.

I stuck around for about half of The GOSTT's set but had to bail before the encore surprise guest appearance from none other than Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead (with Raven and Joel from SA also joining in). Next up is Seattle.

Tickets are "off sale" for Johnny Brendas.

    Wonder what that means?

And here's video of the Bob Weir encore from last night. I'm not sure how much the Syd Arthur boys are used to this kind of droning, jamming Dead type of thing, but it looks like it was a fun time for all.

This song is "I Know You Rider", not " Misty". Several 60s-70s SF bands did this song (Dead, Janis, Hot Tuna).

Saw the show in NYC last night, Syd Arthur was fantastic, such a great vibe, hope they find mucho success.
Ghost was amazing, and I've said it earlier, Lennon is no poser with a famous set of parents and a name to use. I had NO idea he could rip on guitar the way he does, excellent show!

There are three dates in Canada, so this is a North American tour.

Added to the Yes show I'm attending.

Those who saw them, did the band have a merch table when they opened for Lennon's band? Wouldn't mind a SA tee.

They did. If you can, be sure to also score their 2011 EP Moving World. It's pretty hard to find, though they had it at their merch table back when the tour started... but not sure if there are any left.

Ax's.com email I received today lists Syd Arthur opening for Yes in Kansas City in early August.

Opening for Yes in Chicago. I think they open at all Yes gigs this upcoming tour except for the casino shows.

It sure makes my going to Yes much more interesting. And I totally won't mind leaving during the half speed "Roundabout" encore.
