Seaprog press release - lineup finalized

    15 April 2014
    For immediate release:

Second Seaprog festival to showcase regional and international progressive/art rock
    www.seaprog.org

The second annual Seaprog festival of progressive/art rock will take place Saturday-Sunday June 21-22 at the historic Columbia City Theater, with a free kickoff event on Friday, June 20 at the Royal Room. Tickets are now on sale at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/588202

Organized by Seattle musicians, Seaprog’s focus is on progressive music of the here and now. Following last year's highly successful debut, the 2014 festival will present more than a dozen remarkable bands whose diversity of approach illustrates just how far progressive rock has evolved since its origins in the 1960s. Seaprog's emphasis is on the resurgent Northwest progressive music scene, augmented by some of the top creative bands active in the more adventurous reaches of the genre today. Confirmed artists include Quebec’s legendary avant-rock unit Miriodor, Seattle space-rock sensation Midday Veil, instrumental juggernaut Corima (Los Angeles), The Mercury Tree (Portland), Fang Chia (Tacoma), and Seattle bands Autumn Electric, Badwater Fire Company, Being John McLaughlin, Spacebag, Spontaneous Rex, and Zubatto Syndicate, with additional smaller acts between the main sets.

Conceived as a destination event rather than just another gig, Seaprog invites listeners to spend a weekend enjoying stimulating and intelligent music and visiting the many fine restaurants, bars, and shops in Columbia City. For more information, artist interview requests, etc., please contact press@seaprog.org.

I know the show is way out of the way for most being that the show is in Seattle. However, no love at all for the posts or the bands. Where is your progressive nature to leave the thread hanging out there?

Some of the bands are pretty sweet. Check out Mercury Tree, a cross between porcupine tree and rush. Autumn Electric is also quite nice for the Strawbs, cloud cult, Ritual and decemberists fans.

There are others to discover but a prog festival should be celebrated not ignored.

No I am not the event organizer, just a Seattle guy who likes to discover new music and celebrate prog.

This sounds great. I looked at the website and saw the theatre and was wondering is it standing only, or are there seats (asigned or open). I have a bad leg and I couldn't stand all night.

Last year they put seating on the main floor, GA.

Looks eclectic enough, I think. There's room for both "out" acts like Corima and Miriodor as well as straighter edge. I'd certainly attend if I was local or even regional.

Very cool. I know someone from Seattle. If I can manage a visit around those dates, I'd go for sure. Seattle is a great city. And I love the fact that they are focusing on modern prog. Much success to this event.

Thanks for the love! I am an organizer and we appreciate the support.

There will be at least as many seats in the theater as tickets sold, although walk-ups who buy tickets at the door may have to stand, but probably not.

Tickets are very affordable, only $60 for a weekend pass, plus the Friday night show and the acts in the theater bar between sets are free. And if I can make an appeal to out-of-town attendees, we can help you find inexpensive lodging. You also don't need to rent a car - the light rail goes from the airport to within a half mile of Columbia City, and on into downtown Seattle. despite the distance for many people, we won't break your budget.

    Tickets are here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/588202

I was wondering if anybody knew of hotels that are near the theatre.
There seem to be a lot around the airport. Is this close enough.
Where are the out of town bands staying? Its always great to talk to them.
Also we're coming a day early, what's the one or two things you should do in Seattle.
Which brewpub has the best beer.

There are no hotels near the venue, unfortunately. The airport is the best bet if you are on a budget. By light rail or rental car, it's only about 15 minutes to the venue (plus a half mile walk from the Columbia City light rail station). If you are looking for more stuff to do besides going to the venue, downtown is also only about 15 minutes by light rail, but it's a lot more expensive, including paid parking.

The Red Roof Inn by the airport is a semi-official hotel for Seaprog.

Two things you should do: Go to the Pike Place Market. It's amazing. Everything else is not quite up to that, but there are lots of good restaurants and pubs on Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, Fremont, Ballard, etc. Oh, Experience Music Project at Seattle Center is also cool, and it's right next to the Space Needle.

There are countless good pubs in Seattle. Two of my favorites are Brouwer's in Fremont and Naked City in Greenwood. Pike Place Brewery at the Market is decent. Don't overlook Columbia City Ale House - they don't make their own, but they always have good taps and they are literally 10 feet from the theater.

Contact me if you want a tour guide!

    John

I know I'm seriously tempted, flying to two festivals in one year may test the wifes legendary patience a little too much.
