Thread: Prog Rock Limericks

There was a Hispanic named Rael
With a Cuckoo Cocoon for a jail.
    A doctor so fickle
    Then severed his pickle.
That was right before Trick of the Tail.

There once was a man named Steven
Of prog he once said "No...not even"
    He dismantled his band
    For something more grand
Of PTree's demise we are grievin'

Phil Shulman was once heard to say
That his job didn't offer much pay.
So with help from French lit
    He tried for a hit
    Writing lyrics that quote Rabelais.

There once was a Brit known as Jon
His lyrics would make people yawn
    Heart of the Sunrise
    Was hardly a prize
Then he sang Tales of right before Dawn

  5. #55
Many tunes that were penned by JTull
Have lyrics that are anything but dull
    Frozen flaking fish raw nerve
    He once up did serve
The meaning's a pain in the skull

Chris Maitland was part of the Tree
Thought it always was Where He Would Be
    So stupid the dream
    Or so it would seem...
He's now in absentia, you see.

There is a drummer named Furio
Who is quite the star in Tokyo
    He plays with such speed
As to make his hands bleed
Amazing is C3, his new trio

Run down a street where the glass shows that summer has gone
Age in the doorways resenting the pace of the dawn
All of them standing in line
All of them waiting for time
From time, the great healer, the machine messiah is born.

There is a guitarist named Machacek
From Austria to LA he did trek
Staccato and legato he can play
With verve and great skill, I would say
Playing with Jobson, he deserves a nice pay check
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

There once was a composer named Igor
Le Sacre du Printemps I adore
    The people were not quiet
    The ballet caused a riot
His genius is hard to ignore

There once was a band called Pink Floyd
    With sounds esoteric they toyed
The Dark Side of the Moon
    Made the critics all swoon
And left all their fans overjoyed.

In Genesis once did I trust
Then Phil Collins went crazy with lust
    The three took a chance
    Though they just couldn't dance
And they traded their fans for a buck!

    Three Shulman brothers were friends
    With musical gifts without end
    They added a Kerry
    And string man named Gary
    Acquiring an intricate blend!

There once was a guitarist named Gilmour
He was not part of the original four
But with him now on board
And some new music quickly scored
They soon showed Mr. Barrett the door

Pink Floyd is a band that had guts
Their last one with Waters had Cuts
With Syd B no longer around
Also gone was his crazy "psyche" sound
It's well known that the guy had gone nuts

There once was a band called Soft Machine
Towards jazz their music did lean
    They then became fusion
    This lead to confusion
But I liked them more it would seem

I'm in love with this music called Prog
Some will compare it to howling dog
    But like Beethoven and Bach
Some are left deaf and in the dark
It keeps great time when you go for a jog

There was a band they called Gong
Sounded great after a toke on a bong
    With David the quipster
    And Gilli's space whisper
Their career has been glorious and long

There once was this music symphonic
Some will say that it's very moronic
With songs quite long and grand
    Like from an orchestral band
To many it's like medicine or tonic

The Moody Blues lived by the tron
When it broke down the magic was gone
    So they hired Moraz
    But the Switzerland spazz
Walked out in a huff later on!

There once was a composer named Cage
The critics he could not assuage
    4:33 he wrote
    Not played was one note
And it leaves audiences in quite a rage

There was a young sax player named 'Trane
His playing caused emotions to drain
    He was revolutionary
    And yes, a visionary
That he left us too soon causes pain

I'd yell it but I would get hoarse
This thread seems to have run its course
People "clutching at straws", writing limericks with flaws
That don't sound so good if they're forced

"My choice early in life was either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or a politician, and to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference"

    President Harry S. Truman

Return of the Son of Prog Limericks

There once was a music called prog
    That critics would endlessly flog
    It proved they were daft
As the rest of us laughed
And flushed their reviews down the bog!

Just one more then I'll show some restraint
I would not want you people to faint
    It's been loads of fun
And I had a great run
My reputation I would not want to taint
