My wife loves anything to do with Tobias Sammet, especially Avantasia. Thanks for mentioning this one! And for countering the "most hated" list with some needed positivity.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

He also has Depeche Mode and OMD on his list........I know from previous conversations that PeterG and I have kindred tastes in some aspects of musical choices which will certainly make me give a listen to some of his choices that Im not familiar with.

Im actually surprised ABC didnt make his initial list

You're welcome. I love Avantasia too, The Metal Opera is just fantastic! I've actually met Tobias a few times and chatted with him, as well as the rest of Edguy, the chat always revolves around German and Premier League football and German and Irish beer Never music though, that would be gauche!

I've just realised that 30 years ago was 1984 (not 74, age does that to the brain of a 52 year old ) and that as such Genesis, Pink Floyd, and Squeeze haven't done anything since 84 that appeals to me to the degree that they should be in a top 30 list, so I'm changing them and replacing them with ABC, Sisters of Mercy and All About Eve. Editing in opening post.

And here are 3 more from on my list. First out a lovely Joy Division cover from Cultur Kultur frm their beautiful album Spirit.

Here you are Klothos ,this one's for you, the wonderful Sero Overdose. As I'm sure you realise most of these bands are German.

And ending this post with the totally bloody fantastic De/Vision, touches of Ultravox about these lads

CONSIDER that (that which I forgot) the bands on your list should have done something in the last 30 years that appeals to you to the extent that they make such a list.
