I hope some day they try a drummer again.
Did you know Klaus Krieger was supposed to drum live on the US Rockoon tour? Band pic and everything. I just remember something to the effect of "it wasn't going to work out" and the band pic was redone without him in it. Probably was going to take too much time to rearrange the music, work it out with the sequences, etc.

I like Jester's Nightwatch but actually slightly prefer the alternate track "Galago" that was on a KLEM sampler around that time

The redo of Songs No Words was very, very, very nonessential IMHO. And Thousand Times II was really more of a Johannes + Son production since Jonas co-wrote most of the tracks. I actually think that's why there was such pointed PR stuff about how Diary of a Common Thread was a "true" JS solo album. No offense to Jonas but I am buying those albums to hear his father's work.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I'm sure you've got one too...I actually have a tour poster somewhere at home that includes Kruger in the lineup. The final version that was used on the tour had him "photoshopped" out (or whatever technique was used back in 92 to fix oopsies).

Too bad he wasn't there; IMHO it would've helped having something other than those stock ROM drum sounds on so many of the tunes.

I actually don't have the poster with Klaus. And yeah, whatever it was back then that preceded Photoshop!

I was really looking forward to it. It would've been a nice counterbalance to that guy at stage left shakin' his ass and slappin' his guitar!

P.S. A bunch of us waited outside the back of the Wiltern to see if we could glimpse Ed and get an autograph. Nothing. We must have missed him. After we'd moved around 10-15 feet to the side of the door, suddenly Zlatko emerged with his tote bag, and he hauled ass. I wasn't looking for your autograph, bud!

I got Edgar's autograph from that tour, the Lisner Auditorium show in October 92!! I had him sign my tour program, still have it somewhere.

It's shockingly hard to find pics from 1992 with KK still in there. I found this still from a video...not the poster I'm talking about but at least it's evidence I'm not smoking crack!!

Never heard that before. That hurts. So close and yet it didn’t happen.

Sweet. Any chatter or did he sign with a paint brush like Ruby Rhod in The Fifth Element and boogie?

Fond memories of J's big hair. The official pic has Klaus in the center with arms folded, no smile. They filed them and tried to forgot about them, haha.

Full honesty, I think Edgar almost pretended to not know how to speak English he got swamped super quickly and seemed really thrown off/disoriented by a zillion questions and attempts at autographs/photos/handshakes. He happened to make eye contact with me so I smiled and offered up my tour program with that "may I ask for your autograph" look. He signed it, smiled and moved on. At the time it was a HUGE deal, meeting an idol like that.

If I'd run into him again a few years ago on that last tour, I'd probably have asked him if he could hook me up with Schmoelling's signature

Weird random fun fact and extremely questionable claim to fame: I got a thanks in the liner notes for the repressing of White Out 2000

Yeah, it was a surprise and made me smile. I had a translation of the German liner notes to English lying around from somewhere and while chatting with Andreas Hedler one day (kind of JS's webmaster and I think runs Viktoriapark records) I mentioned I'd be happy to pass it along. They ended up using it, so I got thanks and a copy of that + the Early Years albums autographed.

Like I said...extremely questionable claim to fame. But my name is in the liner notes of an album by one of my all-time favorite artists (and not just a crowdfunding list), and that is kind of neat

They also sent you Early Beginnings? Now I know how you had it so early back then!

Recycle or Die is another good one by Johannes. Can't go wrong with those returns to "Midnight in Tula" and "Dominion," not to mention his rendition of "Stratosfear" (titled "Stratosphere"), a track that was before his time with the band and only of TD's best!

  24. #149
Recycle or Die was a hard sell for me when it first landed; it felt less like a cohesive "album" and more like an eclectic mix of film score bits, covers and unrelated ideas. As with many things, time's been kind to this one too and it's improved a fair bit

I still don't love everything but the high points are pretty darn high: I really dig the title track, Buda-Pest and Explosive Game and yeah, it's a cool reinvention of Stratosfear with his particular "voice" driving the sound. The latter 3rd of the album loses me but still, quality goods from the man for sure

Frankly, the only release of his that I never, ever revisit for any reason is Der Zaubergeiger Settembrini. What can I say? I'm a bit of a completist and it was available at a reasonable price. Live and learn
