Right now, I'm enjoying a local radio program called "Reelin' In The Years" on GA State University's station, WRAS. Host Jeff Walker is playing a tape from the first hour of the station's first day. It included a speech from the Dean of Students and a very young Richard Belcher, now a news personality. WRAS became the "Stereo Oddysey" of the FM airwaves on January 18th, 1971. Lots of fun to hear the station ID jingle for the first time in over 35 years. The first song played was the 2001 A Space Oddysey theme, followed by George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" to start the regular music programming.
The Reelin' In The Years" program is streamed at http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wras/ppr/wras2.m3u
on Saturday morning from 8-10 AM EST. It pretty fairly represents what Progressive Radio was back in the early to mid 70s. If you missed the Classic Prog era of radio, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
Unfortunately, the program is not podcast.
