If anything I'd put it down to the not unusual record collector / 'head' mentality that the more obscure something is the better it must be. In the rarefied world of 'funny music' signing to Cuneiform is like getting a deal with EMI. Wah, sellouts, I was into them before it was cool, etc.

Way back when (1998) when I signed them, Tige (drummer and leader) was complaining about the gigs that the band played.
They were part of the ‘jam band’ circuit and played these pretty big festivals (this is a video of one of them, although there sure don’t seem like a lot of people are there for the Hosers....)
I said, “Tige, what’s wrong with that circuit; it’s a LOT of people being exposed to you. I don’t think the typical Cuneiform circuit is anywhere near as many people.”
His reply? “Yeah, but we’re all just TIRED of making the little hippie girls cry.....”
