    19?

Thanks for this! I thought it was a bit strange, because I knew there was a Cathedral who supposedly influenced Anglagard ... and Anglagard sound nothing like Chrome Hoof at all. Doom metal seems more like it, as there are most certainly elements of doom in Chrome Hoof (those big chords in "Enter the Drobe", for instance).

Nice to see this thread resurrected. Chrome Hoof are well worth it and you'll find all their material, while hard to get, is just as good.

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

I like almost everything that Lee Dorian's Cathedral had issued. "Forest of Equilibrium" is a masterpiece of mourning doom metal, a seminal album for the evolution of the style and a must for everyone into heavy rock.

The thing I kind of love about Black Chrome Gold is how amazingly odd/unlikely all the ingredients seem while the final result pretty much feels absolutely natural, effortless, and logical.

I think they're all pretty easy to get except for the self-titled album, which seldom turns up on the secondary market.

I bought Beyond Zade upon it's release in 2006 and then didn't come across another release from them until I found both the s/t and Pre-Emptive False Rapture while on a trip to London. I have yet to find a copy of Crush Depth.

Thanks for this thread. This was a band unknown to me. Now I'm interested. Very interested.

Get their Cuneiform release first - that way you'll be supporting the, uh, scene.

[Seriously though; it was the first one I heard all-way through, and it works very well as introduction to the band]

I have three the most recent Chrome Hoof albums. Pre-Emptive False Rapture is my favorite one, but they all are wonderful!

    Two fast ones:

Teeth of the Sea is an amazing post rock/jazz/electronica/holy crap whatever else band that has done a string of really excellent albums, the latest of which is Wraith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LR3kv0tslVU

Pye Corner Audio does lovely electronic music, not strictly techno but also not purely beholden to the past either. Kind of like John Carpenter or some of the soundtrack work that Steve Moore (Zombi) has done. Hard to pick a representative track, they're pretty all over the place and have a ton of releases. I like this one so this one it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1qd6HVGBk4

Strictly speaking I wasn't familiar with Sly & the Family Drone before I saw this poster, however with a name like that of course I looked them up, and I was not disappointed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGQzo0eq2jo

Along similar lines, Rainbow Grave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGQzo0eq2jo Very much like Swans to my ears...can't say I'd buy an album but I'd enjoy seeing it done live.

Chrome Hoof is pretty goddamned high on the bucket list, although this particular show looks pretty unlikely for me.

Scorn are a project from Napalm Death's first drummer Mick Harris. Dub influenced heavy beats and deep, minimal basslines with a dark industrial electronic background. Harris had put the project to rest in 2011 but restarted it two years ago. Their best work is generally acclaimed to be between 1992-1995. Their post 2019 albums sound very, very dated 90s electronica; a rehash of their earlier style bringing nothing new to the table.

Teeth of the Sea, on the other hand, are to my ears the most interesting band of the bill. Amazing act.

I suspect that's a bit too costly for a band that would come over here essentially as an unknown, with what I suspect are pretty costly production costs. Even here among the "open minds" of PE they'd barely have enough interest to fill a small hall. They'd do much better targeting the same scene that would see a festival tour with a band like Parliment/Funkadelic as the top act.

Would be happy to be wrong though!

If they were playing in th UK and it was possible to get in and out without quarantine I'd certainly consider flying over to see them. Bucketlist band.

Chrome Hoof is the only band I know from that lineup, but I wish I could go because I'd love to see them. They're fantastic.

Thanks for the info, Mr. Batts. I'mma have to check out some of those groups -- Teeth of the Sea in particular sounds right up my alley.

In the I didn’t know that column, I recently found a copy of the 2010 Chrome Hoof CD Crush Depth, which I didn’t have.

It features Roedelius and Moebius (i.e. Cluster) on one track
