Ouch!! Did someone hit a nerve by starting this thread? I hope you see now why your Phil bashing is not cool. Now, can we get back to talking about how Mel Collins ruined Genesis?

Wait a minute. I thought we agreed it was General Tito who ruined Genesis.

I allways thought there was way too much saxophone on the early Genesis records and never liked their jazzy sound. Now I know who's responsible of this and It's good to know he has been fired. I sincerely hope Mel wil be not take part in the next Genesis reunion tour. I heard he also can play flute quite well, thus he might be a good replacement for Ian Anderson in the next Jethro Tull reincarnation. But no more saxophone in Genesis, PLEASE !!!

Mel Collins was responsible for Lino leaving PE
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Totally agree with all of this. The blaring saxes virtually ruin the entire middle section of "Can-Utility", and are even more out of place in songs like "Dusk" and "The Lamia".

The sax in Can-Utility was Ian McDonald. It's a common mistake.

I stand corrected. Thus Ian Mc Donald ruined Genesis too... and he already ruined Steve Hackett's "Genesis Revisited (I)". Didn't he also ruined King Crimson long ago ?

No, but he ruined Starrider by Foreigner with his flute playing and Long, Long Way From Home with his sax playing.

    Actually, I quite like Phil.

Purists sniff that he ruined Genesis, but he has a good voice, and the compositions were OK. Genesis simply evolved. It had to. Just as Rabin didn't really ruin Yes. They just evolved.

    (Talk about a hornet's nest.)
