I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
Can only think of two.
Comedy of Errors
Gandalf's Fist
I would also include Henry Fool - Men Singing
Also enjoyed:
Leafblade - The Kiss of Spirit and Flesh
Steven Wilson - The Raven
Bruce Soord - Wisdom of Crowds
Sanguine Hum - Weight of the World
These New Puritans - Field of Reeds
Henry Fool - Me Singing
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
Big Big Train - English Electric Full Power
Vienna Circle - Silhouette Moon
Amplifier - Echo Street
1. Purson - The Circle & The Blue Door
2. Wolf People - Fain
3. Henry Fool - Men Singing
Honorable mention: Willowglass - The Dream Harbour
So many good ones. Just off the top of my head:
Big Big Train - English Electric (any incarnation)
Thieves Kitchen - One For Sorrow, Two For Joy
Sanguine Hum - Weight of the World
My list is identical to billg's. All three are musically engaging and beautifully executed. Most importantly, each is deeply moving in its own way. After a lifetime of reverence for music made in England from 1970-1980, it's really satisfying that such wonderful and quintessentially English music is being made again now.
And then i l add Kompendium (hang on... Was it 2012?), Guapo and Godsticks.
BBT - English Electric Full Power
Cosmograf - The Man Left In Space
Lifesigns - Lifesigns
Shit - I forgot the Cosmograf record (even thou I played guitar on it!) that's a great one 2 . If you're interested in that band I'm doing another part for them today with a drum track by NDV. Robin is a very clever fella and a lovely bloke.
Actually and Lifesigns and BBT are good. Bugger I give up.
Wow there are some great ones here. I'd have to go with
1) Henry Fool
2) Guapo
3) Steven Wilson
1) Haken - The Mountain
2) Big Big Train - EE (whichever!)
3) Black Sabbath - 13
Honourary mention (a band I discovered this yeaR): The Monroe Transfer - Trials
In alphabetical order:

Steven Wilson - Raven
Wolf People - "Fain"
