We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

Well, this is quite something...a newly published (and excellent quality) photo of Robert Johnson:

There's considerable skepticism as to the authenticity of any of the very few photos that purport to be RJ.

Some killer slide work by the master.

Where have these two been all of my life? Damn, I love that guitar tone.

Larkin Poe are awesome. I have been trying to spread the word on them both here and on Facebook. I got to see them live about 6 months ago with their full band and they were very impressive. I only have one of their albums, but it is really good. I know they have a new one that has either just came out or coming out soon. A truly great young musical talent.

Tom Compton (drums) and Jon Paris (bass/harmonica) are great musicians. They certainly got their chances to shine during his sets. It's backing, not fronting. But, yes, Johnny was really great.

Yes they are, but they are not really contributing, there is no interplay, the are just delivering the platform so Johnny can shine. Maybe Johnny decided that.
Since it's him it works, it would work with him all alone, but could have been more interesting. I saw this unit live at least once and missed more interplay.
Didn't have to be Jack Bruce or Jaco, just someone that kicked his ass once in a while.

Oh well, Johnny was great anyway. Sometimes the greatest.

They did their share of interplay on certain tracks. But, it wasn't like when Johnny and Derringer played in And. Or his mid-70s four-piece band with Floyd Radford (who could really play) as a second guitarist.

Speaking of Rick Derringer, he and Edgar Winter's White Trash have the most epic version of this song. Winter's vocals are frickin' ferocious:

Have not seen any mention of Joe Bonamassa's latest "Royal Tea" recorded at Abby Road in London. IMO it is one of the best albums he has ever done, and my favorite blues rock album of 2019:
