Perusing the Billboard chart for this week (something I don't normally do), I noticed that some artists have up to 5 singles on the chart . (For example, One Direction has three at positions 11, 12, 13) (!!!) ... The last time artists with multiple singles were charting was the early 1960s

So I am wondering: Why put everything out at once? Is this a reflection of the "disposable nature" of current music in which Today's Number 1s will be forgotten and unheard of by next year OR is this how the surviving corporate labels make their money? (by putting everything all out at once and hoping to capitalize on all possible sales before the material winds up as a torrent)?

I noticed that “Royals” is still #1. It’s a good song (certainly better than the rest of the sorry Top 20) but really, aren’t people sick of it yet?
Or did I answer my own question with the parenthetical statement?
