IMO if you are going to make an essential prog list it should at least cover all the bases of what's under the umbrella. (Just like if you made an essential jazz list, something from the free jazz realm should be there, even if it's hardly appealing to the masses.) I haven't looked at the list, but I think a good solid list of the prog essentials wouldn't be complete with something from Henry Cow or Magma.
