I had a three way-tie for that year i, my Gnosis rating section...
Just too difficult to selct one for me

I would've had the same problem for 84, il UZED had not uprated (a 13 in the 80's is exceptional for me >> it's the only one actually) the following albums:
12 Art Zoyd Le Mariage du Ciel et l'Enfer Fra 1984
12 Jaivas, Los Obras De Violeta Parra Chl 1984
12 Talking Heads Stop Making Sense USA 1984

I'm surprised that none of the 80's Crimson's albums have been mentioned yet.

Really? I'm not surprised at all. No one (I would hope) who listens to any reasonable amount of music of varying styles is going to pick any of the three 80s Crimson albums as the very best album of the year. I thought they were all terrible, I had all 3 on CD and sold them all about 15 years ago.

what are you waiting for, then???

80's KC albums appeared in a period when there was still a fair bit of good stuff comming out (whollllly f... !!! whay am I writing here?? )... Competition was still stiff then, so/and with only one album par year to name, it can be expected.

Mind you, these were my favorites at that time, not necessarily of that year as I look back on it now. I still like all these albums now, though.

1980: Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
    1981: Rush - Moving Pictures
1982: Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance
    1983: Yes - 90125
1984: Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
    1985: Rush - Power Windows
1986: Metallica - Master of Puppets
1987: Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien
    1988: Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
1989: Black Sabbath - Headless Cross

    Some progger I was, huh?

Sounds more like a metal list more than an AOR one

Allowing only one selection per year doesn't really say much of anything about the music not picked - except that it didn't get selected as that person's number one. I have a very high opinion of all three '80s KC albums. In fact, my 1981 came down to Moving Pictures and Discipline and I went with the Rush album. I also have a relatively high opinion of '80s Genesis, but I wouldn't pick any one of those albums as favorite of any particular year. You're getting the lists that you asked for. But drawing any conclusions at all from such small sample sizes is probably ill-advised.

Way less hard than the 70s list. I think there may only be one album from 1988 that I like.

1980: Ain Soph: A Story of Mysterious Forest
1981: Stern Meissen: Reise zum Mittelpunkt des Menschen
    1982: Kate Bush: The Dreaming
    1983: Kenso: Kenso II
    1984: Bruce Cockburn: Stealing Fire
    1985: Prefab Sprout: Steve McQueen
    1986: Горизонт: Летний город
    1987: Mr. Sirius: Barren Dream
1988: Talk Talk: Spirit of Eden
    1989: Todd Rundgren: Nearly Human

EDIT: I’m rather shocked to learn that I am not the first to list Stealing Fire, but it really is a perfect album.

    1980: Eskaton - 4 Visions
1981: Universe Zero - Ceux Du Dehors (KC - Discipline was a close 2nd)
1982: Art Ensemble of Chicago - Urban Bushman
1983: Etron Fou Leloublan - Les Sillons de la Terre
    1984: Universe Zero - UZED
    1985: Kenso - Kenso
    1986: Shub-Niggurath - Les Morts Vont Vite
    1987: The Thinking Plague - Moonsongs\
1988: 5uu's with Motor Totemist Guild - Elements
    1989: Kenso - Sparta

The 80's sure had a lot of great avant-garde and RIO releases.
