    Albums by year

    Have you ever had any threads here in which you've picked your fav prog albums per year?
    Say, 3 per year.

  2. #2
    Yes...there used to be a guy on PE, maybe 6-7 years ago, who would run a number of threads (one for each year) so the people would recommend him the best albums for given year....it was actually lot of fun and I picked up some really good albums from the suggestions...

    I blame Wynton, what was the question?

    You can skip 1971 , cause it will be a thread full of nothing but Yes "The Yes Album", Yes' "Fragile", KC's "Islands", JT's "Aqualung", GG's "Acquiring The Taste", ELP's "Tarkus", Genesis "Nursery Cryme", and Nektar's "Journey To The Center of the Eye" ad nauseum ...

    j/k, of course

    Here's a synopsis of the sites remit:-

    The Gnosis Project is basically a large repository of music data catering to the discerning, experimental/avant/progressive listener. In order to understand the data, it is imperative that you first understand the system and the meaning behind the ratings.

    Here's the link:-

    http://www.gnosis2000.net/index.html

    It's a very good resource if your tastes lean towards the avant, though it also features most mainstream prog albums. It is set up as a panel of 'expert' reviewers/raters rather than a general open to the public rating site so you get to see the differences in tastes of particular raters. I like it a lot and find it a very good barometer of my tastes. Check it out and see what you think.

    THREAD TITLE: Albums by Year

    But only those of you who can read the comma and 1971 that I wrote in invisible ink after "year" may respond

  21. #21
    Back in the very old days we had a series of polls and picked out albums per year all the way through the decades, it was fun and informative to read other PE'ers tastes, and always led to a shopping spree to complete received gaps.

    I think it may be time to revisit and see how tastes have changed now that the membership is so much larger, although the nature of polls will probably ensure the cornerstone albums of prig retain their stranglehold on the upper echelons.

    As Ian already answered partially, I can tell you that a gnosis 13, 14 or 15 are shades of 5* a 10, 11 or 12 are shades of 4¨

    Note that I'm probably the only rater who has not used the rating of 15...

    For me, anything 13 and above is perfection...

    Anything with a cumulatuive/average rating 11 is almost a must-buy ... Not sure I xill like it, but the music is of indisputable quality...

    Okay, now I'm starting to understand, so a 15 in my world would be Kate Bush's The Kick Inside and perhaps 2 or 3 more albums but not much else.

    So on a 5 graded scale it looks like this?

    5 = 15,14,13
    4 = 12,11,10
    3 = 9,8,7
    2 = 6,5,4
    1 = 3,2,1
