Thread: Bands with multiple (dedicated) lead singers

Bands with multiple (dedicated) lead singers

Now do realize, I am not referring to bands like Queen, where they had a designated lead singer, but other members would occasionally take the mic. Nor like the Beatles, where the lead vocals rotated among the band’s instrumentalists. I am referring to bands with multiple lead vocalists whose main function is there to sing, and any instruments they played were incidental to their vocal performances. With that said, here’s a list of bands I know that had multiple lead vocalists at the same time:

    Barrock
    City Boy
Esperanto (who originally had FOUR lead singers!)
    Jefferson Airplane/Starship
    Shaa Khan

Any more to add to the list?

Doesn't Mark Volmann (sp?) play an occasional guitar?

It's Volman with one "n", and yes, just like Mick Jagger or Roger Daltrey. Flo and Eddie are an excellent example. This is destined to be a very short thread, however.

    Mike and the Mechanics.

Bankstatement, for that matter, insofar as it was a "band."

    Volman qualifies

I’d probably put them in the same box as Alan Parsons Project, in that there was no regular lead singer as such, more a succession of featured vocalists. Since Bankstatement never got past the one album, we’ll never know, really...though Jayney Klimek’s previous band, The Other Ones, did sport two lead vocalists (her brother Alf was the other).

Oh, and ceuyoyi apparently can’t read.

Cory Wells plays guitar, but like Volman, it's purely incidental.

Of course, you can include almost every Motown band, for that matter. But, I'm not sure that's in the spirit of the thread.

Not prog, but the Boston-based new wave outfit Human Sexual Response had four lead singers. They'd trade off who would sing lead depending on the song. I never cared for them much. Here's a taste.

Do the Beach Boys count, they do play instruments, but I'd say their main function is vocals.

I suppose I could add 'Cirrus Bay'

Not Motown, exactly, but Chic had two female lead singers. The Human League... SORT of qualifies in that Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley occasionally took leads (especially in their one big hit) even if Phil Oakey sang lead 90% of the time.

Well, most folk-rock groups share dual vocal, for ex

The Pentangle - McShee, Jansch & Renbourn
    Spirogyra - Gaskin & Cockerham

Speaking of Flo & Eddie, what about Zappa with Ray White and Ike Willis? They both play rhythm guitar but weren't an integral part of the musical performances.

Well, this thread was started in the MAIN BOARD, so does that mean it must be prog to be included in this list?
