Is this the inspiration behind the "Court of the Crimson King" album cover?

I spotted this today in an obscure Italian horror film from the mid 60's called "Castle of the Living Dead", starring Christopher Lee and a young Donald Sutherland in multiple roles (the strangest being an old witch). I wonder if Barry Godber had seen this and based the "Court of the Crimson King" artwork on it? Or was it subconscious? Merely coincidence?

I think it is a coincidence and does not look to much like the Godber cover art.

I doubt it but you never know. I always kind of thought that maybe Edvard Munch's famous painting "scream" might have been the inspiration but who knows for sure. Well the guy who painted it, Barry Godber, probably does be he died just a few months after the album was released apparently. I admit the wolf thing resembles the cover more than "scream" does.

It certainly looks similar to the Crim cover to me.
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

My understanding was that Godber drew the image by looking at himself in the mirror (I think that was the story in the Epitath booklet).

    Cool looking park though!
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

If Godber was still alive, he'd have pulled a Roger Dean and sued Chris Columbus.

It couldn't be inspired by any earlier work because everyone knows that absolutely every detail and aspect of first generation prog was completely and utterly original and was influenced by no one.

It was definitely the inspiration for this album cover

    Pretty good record, too.

I can definitely see it--the teeth, the nose, and even the way the face morphs into the background along the sides. I think it is very likely an inspiration, particularly as stylish Italian horror films of the era were quite fashionable among the art-student crowd, from what I understand.

I definitely think there's something in the theory becasue when you look at the cover of the KC tribute album the resemblance to the edifice is even clearer

The expressions and intent are completely different.
