    OCTOBER EQUUS QUARTET 'Isla Purgatorio'

    Hello friends,

Very soon will be released a new October Equus Quartet album called Isla Purgatorio. The music presented here is maybe more direct than the usual in October Equus (but conveniently complex), with more spaces for improvisation and more oriented this time toward a kind of avant-prog-jazz-rock.

The members of the band are Ángel Ontalva on guitar, Alfonso Muñoz alto sax, Amanda Pazos Cosse bass and Vasco Trilla drums and percussions. The album is a octoberXart's production for Clamshell Records. We will receive the CDs the next November 15 and probably at the end of November or in the first days of December you will find copies on your favorite store.

Here you can listen to a track from the new album:

The album includes 9 new compositions by Ángel Ontalva, with recording and mixes by Amanda Pazos Cosse and mastering by Amanda and Ángel. The cover, illustrations and artwork design is by Ángel H. Rodríguez Morales (Ángel Ontalva's alter ego for paintings and illustrations).

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

I have it for a while and I am enjoying it.

Again, a very different album from the previous one. I think this one is more Avant-jazz instead of Avant-prog. Less composed and a lot of room for improvisation.
I like it, but do not think it is as good as Permafrost or Saturnal. I wouldn't want this as a main course, but as a snack in between it does the job very well.

Off topic: I also got Angel Ontalva's solo album Mundo Flotante. Absolutely gorgeous stuff! Do not miss this one.

Well, for some reason the album give the impression of being less composed than the OE albums, but I would say it's 80% composed. It's a more naked album, and as it's in fact another different band (OE 'quartet') we are trying some different directions here.

I'm glad to see that you like the Mundo Flotante album. I think that there are several good compositions, I appreciate specially 'Una para Lars' ('One for Lars', I admire his music and it's dedicated to him) and the long Suite. Our next two releases (for the next spring I hope) will be a new October Equus with septet formation that is already half recorded (with keyboards, cello and two reeds), very different from the previous, and another Mundo Flotante with a band that will include cello, hurdy gurdy, melodica, saxes and vibraphone. This one will be more oriented toward a kind of balcanic-middle East tunes with more complex arrangements than the previous volume and less jazz-rock. Right now I'm finishing the arrangements of this album.

It may not 'yet' be my favorite, but is certainly a grower!

I've ordered it for Christmas, so I'll have to wait until then to listen to it. But everything said thus far is making me want to hear it asap.
