    The definition of "rock star"

Seems in the last 10-15 years, the definition has changed/ evolved to include pop artists as well as performers from other genres. Why do you think this happened?

Plain and simple - few give a shit about rock anymore. Who were the last "rock stars"? Those two idiot brothers from Oasis?

Words meanings evolve, We probably wouldn't understand someone speaking English from the 17th century. They certainly wouldn't understand us. I've heard Rocks star applied to almost anyone who is really good at something, which strangely enough, has absolutely nothing to do with being a current modern day rock star. The true meaning should be anyone who is willing to sell their body, mind or soul for notoriety.

Also, I like the energy drink Rock Star (especially the kind they sell in liquor stores with vodka in it). Where I'm from, someone who smokes crack is referred to as a "rock star."

The definition of rock star is not setting up your own gear at the gig.

    You can't be a star unless you've made someone's big 5 list.

These days anyone can throw a flat screen TV out of a hotel window. Throwing a 40" cathode ray tube, weighing 750lbs, takes a real rock star. Alice Cooper once said he was in the process of throwing a television out of the window, when he realised it was his own TV at home!

If young women recognize you in public and want to rip your clothes off then you're a rock star(I would say porn star but most women don't watch porn so they probably wouldn't recognize you).

"Rock Star" has evolved much as the term "heavy metal" has evolved. In fact, both have taken on non-music terms-for example, when a child does really well on pretty much anything or Guy Fieri is praising a cook of something he has just shoved in his face and that is still hanging out of his beard, he's a "rock star". Whenever anyone has willingly done something incredibly stupid and has somehow defied the theory of Darwin by surviving it, that is often praised as "METAL!!!" Keep in mind, in no way are the terms reflective of anything actually related to a rock star, such as ordering room service, falling off of the stage or having an onstage hissy fit tantrum, or of a heavy metal musician, such as getting arrested for showing up with animal heads on the stage, listening to Simon and Garfunkel or being a Norwegian farmer.

That's why you need someone like Fred Norris keeping track.
