Takes me back to the dark days of noisy black vinyl and turntable spinning too fast... unless my cd player is slowing down!

regrading Sirius from APP- great track, it should have been expanded to cover a whole side of an LP.

    great intro....
ELO- Tightrope (since Fire On High doesn't qualify because it's an instrumental)
Queen- Death On Two Legs, Liar
    Supertramp- Brother Where You Bound

I'm guessing it's because Dylan comes off as being genuine, whereas "the Boss" seems phony.

My vote for great intro would be "American Woman."

For example? Nah, don't answer that. This thread was not intended to be a Springsteen hatefest. My comment in the OP was because it was inevitable that there would be the occasional Bruce-bashing, as there always is when his name comes up.

Always found this introduction remarkably haunting and beautifully controlled:

Then there's this, completely different but it's stuck with me for years:

    And the definitive, urgent opening:

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?

I remember hearing the intro to John Mellencamp's"I Need a Lover Who Won't Drive Me Crazy" and thought ...what a great prog into!! Then the rest of the song started, and, well...
    But a great intro nonetheless!!

Maybe you just need to hear it from a female POV. No intro, tho.

I dunno if I'd call it a "prog intro". I mean, mostly they just play the same musical bit again and again, modulating up or down with each repetition, before finally going into the song proper. I'd love to hear an explanation of how that intro came to be. I wonder if this wasn't one of those "We didn't have enough material" things.

BTW, speaking of Pat Benatar, she had a lot of great intros, like A Little Too Late, Promises In The Dark, and Fire And Ice.

As this is the Off-Topic forum, I don't mind posting this fantabulous intro:

    Lou

Looking forward to my day in court.

Instant fan, owned all the discs within a couple of weeks

    Great call

The Who - The Music Must Change (the coin drops, the chords begin)
Rush - Cygnus X-1 (that spoken bit still gives me a thrill)
Zeppelin - Song Remains the Same (Page gives up more riffs than most bands have in an entire album side)
Stones - Sympathy for the Devil (like Gimme Shelter it sets the scene perfectly)
Sabbath - Don't Start/Symptom of the Universe (like Zep and the Who, Sabbath had a ton of great intros but this one still kills me)
Tull - Locomotive Breath (one thing about the Wilson remaster is he gave this beauty a bottom end)
Faces - Stay With Me (something about that opening salvo just says "rock n' roll")
    Marillion - Invisible Man (breath-taking)
Pink Floyd - Time (another masterpiece)
Rainbow - Stargazer (those drums with that razor guitar, and then the mighty riff kicks in)
Judas Priest - Victim of Changes (needles of guitar notes ratchet up the tension before the riff)
Iron Maiden - Revelations (now THIS is an opening riff)
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
