I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Well, apparently you wen t on to read as far as that sentenced you quotedsiffle.gif
But you're right...
However, even the OP is flawed because two out of three of those "great intros" (the Sprinsteen is so-so, but the Lou reed is excellent)are concert versions, and nothing you could find on studio albums...
What really kills is that sometimes you have an excellent intro for a very shitty tune
For ex: I know EJ's Funeral For A Friend and Love Lies Bleeding are mainly/basically two different tracks, but LLB is such an unworthy follow-up (despite being still ok) for FFaF ....
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
There really is no denying the power of The Love Gun intro:
no tunes, no dynamics, no nosebone
There's a long story attached to my selection. But to keep it short: 'One Of These Nights' by The Eagles.
A more modern, proggy choice would be 'La course aux papillons' by Ere G.
I knew I was going overboard (I always do on these things, so sue me), but I have to admit, after I clicked send and saw the post, I was a bit aghast at how long it was. I didn't realize I had listed twenty four Kiss songs.
But I stand by my list. Every last one of those songs has a bitchin' intro. Yes, even the Kiss songs. And it's not my fault if you turkeys can't be bothered to include a "ten items or less" clause in the OP (not that I would have noticed in this case, as I failed to catch the "instrumental intro" clause in the OP).

I only cited three Quo songs (mainly the ones I knew off the top of my head, I don't have any of their albums or anything).
I would have thought the disturbing part would have been the presence of things like Harper Valley PTA and Dschingis Khan, as well as the four (count em, FOUR) Rick Springfield songs.
The Clash - London Calling
Cramps - Human Fly
Sex Pistols - Anarchy
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)
ELP - Pirates
Sting - Brand New Day
"Normal is just the average of extremes" - Gary Lessor
I thought that was this one

One of my favorite intros of all time:
